Wellness/Prevention: An Effect Of Alcohol Consumption. The liver is forced to break alcohol down into fatty acids, which then accumulate in the liver. Liver cells and brain cells actually die from excessive exposure to alcohol. A glass of wine has 170 calories and a bottle of beer has 150. A 1.5-ounce shot of liquor has 105 calories, not including soda or mixers you may drink along with it.
