Our next principal chair video is ready. We will let John say a little bit about himself. "I began playing the violin in the 4th grade and over the course of several years I also learned to play the Bass, Tuba, French horn, Bassoon, Oboe, Saxophone, and Trombone. I would later play the bassoon in the Monterey Peninsula College wind ensemble, and Tuba / Bass Trombone in the MPC Jazz band under the direction of Monterey’s jazz legend Don Schamber. During my 2nd year at MPC I me...t the Principal bassoonist of the Monterey County Symphony and took a few lessons from him. I would later play bassoon in the Monterey Youth Orchestra and fill in on 2nd bassoon in the Monterey County Symphony as well as the Monterey Chamber Orchestra. After Jr. College I moved to San Jose and took a brief break from music as I pursued a career in electronics. I began playing the bassoon again a few years later and played in various musical theater productions off and on at MPC and the Forest Theater for about 10 years. Around 2010 I started playing more regularly again at MPC. Near the end of 2013, I was asked to join the South Valley Symphony and I have been playing exclusively with the symphony ever since. A year or so later I mentioned to Jim O’briant that I had played the tuba several years ago and he encouraged me to join the Pacific Brass Band. I have been playing in the PBB since 2015. I have been very lucky to have such great musical mentors over the years. Coming from a family with no discernable musical talent, there has always been a driving force within me to express myself through music. I’m truly thankful to the Symphony for letting me be a part of this continuing musical journey." See more

We at SVS are proud to have our newest meet the principal chair video ready. The principal bass trombonist with The South Valley Symphony is Tommy Brozene. This is his 3rd year playing bass trombone with the symphony. Music has been a part of his life since before he was born, listening to his dad perform with various Dixieland groups all over the country. Tommy shares his time on bass trombone between The South Valley Symphony and The Pacific Brass Band. When he's not performing with either group, Tommy works as a substitute teacher for the Gilroy Unified School District. We hope you enjoy this new feature, our next Principal chair will be posted soon, so keep an eye out for it. Do not forget that as these are posted here, they are also being added to our website for you to enjoy anytime. We hope to see all of you very soon.

We at South Valley Symphony are anxiously awaiting the time that we can start performing again. Until that time comes, we thought we would like to take a few moments of your time and introduce our Principal chair players, We start with Jeff Chambers, he has been our Principal trumpet since 2014 and also served as President of our Board of Directors for 3 years and continues to serve as a member of the board. Jeff comes from a musical family and 4 members of his family have pl...ayed with the orchestra at one time or another. He helps our local youth by serving as a brass coach in both the Martin Murphy middle school and Sobrato high school music programs in Morgan Hill. Jeff is also a private music teacher and enjoys seeing his students progress in their abilities. We hope you enjoy this new feature, our next Principal chair will be posted soon, so keep an eye out for it. You will also be able to find these videos on our website over the next few weeks. We hope to see all of you very soon. See more

Happy memorial day from South Valley Symphony, we honor all who served and gave the ultimate sacrifice. At least one of our musicians will be participating in Taps across America which is featured in the video below. We at SVS are anxiously awaiting the time that we can start making music again. We will be doing some updates after the first part of June as we are exploring all possibilities to get our music back into the community that we love. Thank you for the support through all the years. We will be back!

Tonight's NextGen 2021 concert will continue as planned in the theater at Gavilan College. The facility, following recommendations of the health department and the Chancellor's Office of California Community Colleges, has been thoroughly cleaned by Gavilan's facilities staff, and symphony volunteers will be taking precautions against the spread of any virus, Covid-19 or other. Please plan to join us and follow the same recommendations regarding the potential spread of disease: Wash hands frequently, avoid close contact with others, cough or sneeze into tissues, and avoid touching hands to face.
