South Shore Ukulelians 04.01.2021

Here's the playlist for this Wednesday at the American Legion Hall. Play from 6-8 with a beginner lesson at 5:30 and a special Intermediate lesson by Lisa Cohn starting at 5:15. More information on this class is below. This is the last regular meetup until December 18th. Next week is Thanksgiving so you'll have to play your ukulele for your dinner guests instead of with us. They'll love it! The first two Wednesdays of December, the 4th and 11th, the Dark Night group will ...meet. Then the holidays are upon us! There are many Christmas and Hanukkah ukulele songs you can play for these holidays. You'll find the music on the doctoruke.com website. Finally we will end the regular meetup season with a New Year's Ukulele Party on Thursday, January 2nd. Save the date! More information about this special night will follow. After that, until early April, the Dark Night group will meet weekly. If you want to be notified if that group has to cancel one week due to weather or a cancellation by the American Legion please give your email to Marge Bornino. Her email is [email protected]. She will not be sending an email unless there is a cancellation. November 20th Special Intermediate Class Info Lisa has prepared a handout and a lesson for intermediate players. The class will be held downstairs to the right of the bar. It will begin at 5:15. 4 MOVABLE CHORD SHAPES FOR MAJOR CHORDS OK, so you’ve bought that ukulele and have mastered the major chords on the first 3 frets of your uke. Now might be the time to explore all of those other frets, all the way up the neck! After all, you paid for the whole neck, not just the first three frets. Learn 4 different chords shapes that you can apply to any major chord. Wow! Increase your chord knowledge by 4 fold, in one lesson. Handout included.

Here's the playlist for the 13th. We'll also have a regular meetup on the 20th before we take a week with no meetup (the 27th) as we all prepare for Thanksgiving Day! If you aren't familiar with the fabulous song "I Still Miss Someone" that's on the list this week, here is a YouTube link to Roseanne Cash singing it at her father's memorial service. If you watched Ken Burns' Country Music you will be familiar with it. It is so beautiful. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i...zMlJRftg_o Calendar reminders November 13th, 20th Regular Ukulelian meetups November 27th No meetup due to Thanksgiving holiday December 4th and 11th Dark Nights due to Ukulelian meetups in Hawaii. The Fannans will be flying home from Paris tomorrow and Bob said he will write the playlist for this week on Wednesday and bring copies to the meetup. I guess he wasn't willing to take time from visiting La Tour Eiffel and enjoying croissants to work on it in Paris. Quite understandable! If you enjoy the humor of The Great Britain Ukulele Orchestra you might like this one. Having a bit of a disagreement over what the last song of the concert was going to be they ended up singing seven songs in harmony accompanied by music by Handel. Fly Me to the Moon, Hotel California, I Will Survive, Killing Me Softly and more. All accompanied by eight ukuleles. They are a quite a talented group! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0HuSx3z0E6g
