Congrats to South High Spartan - LHP 2020 Chris Fleckstein on his commitment to play baseball for Sonoma State! We're very proud of you young man!

Congratulations to Cade Bargar and Drew Nash for being recognized as some of our Outstanding Senior Baseball Players from the South Bay in 2020. https://www.dailybreeze.com//a-look-at-some-of-the-daily-/

Chris Wada - Chris Tiga Wada was a four year Varsity player for us. He set the bar for how the middle infield positions are played. Although small framed, his cat-like reflexes enabled him to get to any ball. Some of the best feet and hands we’ve seen in a Spartan uniform. The heart that this young man plays with is at the highest level. We can honestly say that Chris Wada gave it his all, in practices and in games. He played much bigger than his size and dazzled us on many occasions. We’re sure that wherever he ends up playing in college, he will make an impact right away.

Colin Wong - Colin became a Spartan his junior year. Right away Colin was accepted into our Spartan family. He fit right in. Colin’s demeanor and maturity level shined from day one. We wished we had more than just two years with him. We were very excited from what we saw in Colin in the Fall and especially leading into the Spring. He was showing his potential as becoming one of our most effective hitters. Colin is a very coachable player. He loves the game and loves to learn. Colin is an excellent catcher. But at some point in the preseason and regular season, Colin played every infield position. And he played them all very very well. His catching ability got him a very nice scholarship to further his baseball career at Westmont College. His grades helped too. Colin is a very very good student.

Daniel Punzalan - Dan had some arm issues that unfortunately really impacted his Junior season. He got healthy enough to pitch for us his Senior year and showed great abilities to be a strike thrower and keeping the ball down in the zone. Even though he wasn’t a starter for us, his roll of coming in when we needed strikes thrown was absolutely vital to his team. Daniel continued to learn and grow as a pitcher through his Senior year. He even got an opportunity to play third base against Cabrillo high school and was making plays like a seasoned veteran! He was a blast to coach and we will surely miss him.

Drew Nash - After taking his junior year off from baseball, when we got Drew back his senior year, it seemed as if he didn’t miss a beat. We knew right away that his presence would be felt. We were so happy he decided to rejoin baseball. His leadership skills, work ethic, and abilities, were present day 1 of his return. He leads by example as the best leaders do. He play 2nd base for us and finished our shortened season nearly batting .500. It was truly an honor to coach this young man and we can’t wait to see what his future holds.

J.T. Moriarty - Mr Clutch is what J.T. was for us. It’s been an honor to coach this young man and to have him with us the last two years with us on Varsity. Whether he was in the starting line up or coming off the bench, he was the epitome of an impact player. He’s been a pleasure to coach from the time he entered our program. J.T. worked incredibly hard all four years. He played catcher, right field, and was a DH for us. We’re very proud of him and that he will be furthering his baseball career at Menlo College.

Dylan Houston - Dylan pitched for us his Junior and Senior years. His career is one of perseverance. Dylan worked hard to improve his pitching ability and showed his desire to be part of Spartan Baseball. He never backed down, and he never failed to provide a laugh during PFP and picks. He enjoyed being there for his teammates, and his consistent great attitude and personality was a pleasure to be around day in and day out. We have known Dylan since he was a youngster and we are excited to see what his future holds.

Dawson Hokuf - Dawson comes from a legacy of Spartan Baseball players. His dad was on the 84 team that won a CIF Championship. We had the honor to coach his brother Parker, and Dawson was a four year Varsity starter. The greatest thing as coaches that we see in Dawson is how much fun he has playing the game. He thoroughly enjoyed it and handled success and failure the same way. His big lefty bat has been a blast to watch. He became a great catcher for us and a heck of a corner infielder. Dawson has baseball in his blood and we feel confident that he will have a long career in the game.

South High Spartans Baseball 26.08.2020

Jakob Ghammachi - Jakob played for us these last two seasons. Unfortunately his Junior year, he was plagued with a nagging shoulder injury that prevented him from a ton of playing time. Fortunately his Senior season, he worked very hard and rehabbed that shoulder and became our starting third basemen. Jakobs strong frame produced some big hits and he had a fantastic Fall for us. He also worked very hard at getting better defensively and it showed. We’re proud to say that Jakob will be furthering his baseball career at Lewis and Clark in Oregon. Jakob finished his shortened Senior season for us hitting .320 with 4 doubles and a walk off homerun in our final game.

Jonathan Foster - We had the pleasure and honor to coach Jonathan his Junior and Senior years at South. He played left field for us and did a fantastic job out there. Jonathan was the first guy to step up when help was needed at the field. He exemplifies what a Spartan Baseball Player is. One of great character and standards, and one that believes in the program and its culture. We had the honor to watch Jonathan grow into an amazing young man. With nearly a 5.0 gpa, we could...n’t be more excited to see what the future holds for him. He will be doing amazing things in the near future. The greatest thing about him was that he didn't know how good of a baseball player he was. His natural ability is off the charts. Jon ended his Senior career hitting .391, with 9 hits, and 2 doubles. His greatest Spartan moment was when he hit 2 homeruns in one inning, and one was a grand slam. See more

Chris Fleckstein - Chris played Varsity baseball for us for 3 years. He worked very hard all 3 of those years. Unfortunately his junior season was shortened due to an arm injury. We got to see what the future was going to look like in his Senior year by some outstanding outings prior to our season being shut down. Many opposing coaches always commented on how good they thought he was. He finished out with a 1.91 era, 12k’s, and only walking 2. Hitters had a .190 average against him. We look forward to seeing Chris impact a college lineup.

South High Spartans Baseball 12.07.2020

David Merryman - David had to have a very serious back surgery that put two steel rods in a portion of his back. We weren’t sure he’d throw again for us. His health was the most important thing. He didn’t have plans or aspirations to pitch in college. He wanted to pitch as a Spartan. To play one final season with his teammates. To his credit, he followed the orders of his doctor and rehabbed correctly. We monitored him closely and he eventually got back to where he could throw without pain. Not only did he take the mound again, he dominated. He was our go to guy in relief and did an exceptional job.

Cade Bargar - The Athlete Cade Bargar. He plays baseball with a football mentality. He plays a very physical game. Other teams, other coaches feared him. His buggy whip swing, his speed and intensity, how he’d get after it, was something you don’t see very often. Along with all of that, he played with his heart. He worked extremely hard on and off the field. Cade was a 4 year Varsity player. He gave 100% of himself every game, from freshman year through his senior year. A player that gives 100% of himself is one that cares a great deal. Cade’s passion to perform will be unmatched for many years to come.

California Baseball Coaches Association put together an All Southern Section Team by Division using seniors. As this season was cut short, they used a career statistic approach with no guarantees your school would be represented. One of our Spartans Cade Bargar was chosen. Congratulations Cade! A very nice honor for you and the South High Baseball Program!
