Would you or your organization like to help develop a clearer vision of how climate change will affect Santa Rosa and what we can do about it? Then please consider attending the Santa Rosa Climate Change Adaptation Workshop, which focuses on building local capacity and empowering community members to use their own knowledge to help increase the resilience of Santa Rosa to climate change. 9am 1pm PT on Tuesday January 19, Thursday January 21, and Wednesday January 27, 2021 ...(attendance at all three is necessary to achieve the goals of the workshop) If you have any questions about the workshop, would like to attend or would like to recommend another organization participate, please contact Amy Nicholson ([email protected]) or Dr. Lara Hansen ([email protected]). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The City of Santa Rosa is collaborating with EcoAdapt and Virginia Tech to improve understanding about local climate change impacts and vulnerabilities and develop implementable adaptation responses. EcoAdapt is a non-profit organization that brings together diverse players to reshape planning and management in response to rapid climate change. Marc Stern, Professor and project PI from Virginia Tech regularly conducts research in collaborative natural resource management processes. This virtual workshop is part of a National Science Foundation-funded study that aims to determine what factors support effective climate adaptation learning and catalyze post-workshop action to create resilience. Who should attend: Anyone who is interested in incorporating climate considerations into long-range planning for Santa Rosa, particularly those whose job includes management or planning for organizations, resources, or infrastructure. Topic areas include: land use, transportation, environmental justice, economic vitality, housing, open space and conservation, public services, and noise and safety. Why you should attend: Share your knowledge. Workshop activities and discussions will focus on identifying vulnerabilities and developing adaptation strategies to reduce those vulnerabilities and increase resilience of community assets. Come share your local knowledge and expertise in small and large breakout group discussions and gain additional insights from your colleagues and peers. Create new and enhance existing partnerships. This workshop provides a forum where you can connect with partners to explore what climate adaptation options are available, and identify areas for improved collaboration and cooperation. Acquire new tools and resources. Climate adaptation tools, resources, and activities will be presented for participants to use during the workshop and in their own management and planning efforts.

Chengdu is a historic and one of three most-populous cities in the western part of China. In an ambitious civic wellbeing project, Chengdu turned 1/3 of usable land area into green spaces including the building of the Tianfu Greenway, the world's longest urban greenway. At a time of a pandemic and in a post-pandemic world, we appreciate all the more the importance of green spaces in urban areas for the wellbeing of our community. The time has come for our Southeast Greenway project to move forward! http://www.worldcitiescultureforum.com/case/tianfu-greenway
Five years ago, a formerly abandoned railroad corridor in the heart of New Orleans was converted into a public green space. To celebrate the occasion, they are having a Greenway Supernova display of outdoor light-based art exhibits. The Lafitte Greenway, a 2.6-mile long linear park and multi-use trail, features recreational facilities, fitness and cultural programming, open green space, and innovative stormwater management features. This is a great example of what our Southeast Greenway can become - an art, ecological, nature, and healthy community space for everyone to enjoy! https://www.nola.com//collection_070c4418-3b1d-11eb-8453-0
We welcomed in the winter Solstice with the 'Great Conjunction' of Jupiter and Mars at sunset. As the darkest night ends the mist will rise, we begin to enjoy the magic return of the sun. Now, with the New Year, we look forward to a time when we can all gather in person on the Greenway. Take a look at this photo of the greenway taken by our Co-Chair Thea Hensel. Can you imagine... a greenway to Spring Lake? Please support the Southeast Greenway Campaign efforts by donating at https://southeastgreenway.org/donate/ Thank you!
