Mark Your Calendars for #GivingTuesday! According to GivingTuesday.org, as the holiday season approaches, 60% of people say that donating to important causes and buying gifts for loved ones are equally important to them. #GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world.... South Bay Literacy Council aims to raise $15,000 on Tuesday, December 1st, the official day marked as GivingTuesday. This is the amount needed to pay rent and insurance, both essential to get SBLC through 2021 intact. We ask all members, tutors, volunteers, students, and extended SBLC family to make a contribution so that we can continue delivering adult literacy and English as a second language (ESL) to South Bay residents. To maximize your contribution, consider including your personal networks in this fundraising cause by asking your family, friends, and employers to match your donation. First time on our FB page in months. I just received this message from the IRS really. Please pass this info to your students: Taxpayers should watch out for these scams. Scammers targeting individuals with limited English proficiency: IRS impersonators and other scammers are targeting groups with limited English proficiency. These scams are often threatening in nature. Phone scams pose a major threat to people with limited access to information, including individuals not en...tirely comfortable with the English language. A common one remains the IRS impersonation scam where a taxpayer receives a telephone call threatening jail time, deportation or revocation of a driver's license from someone claiming to be with the IRS. Recent immigrants often are the most vulnerable to these scams. They should ignore these threats and not engage the scammers.

Many of our tutors help adult learns prepare for the citizenship test. I’m so proud of the dedication and positive energy of our students and tutors.
