This Netflix documentary continues the conversation we’ve had following all the other screenings held at SPMS in the last couple of years, and reveals more insight about Social Media from its own creators and engineers. We have to fix this....for our kids...

Calling all artists! The National PTA Reflections Art Contest is an art competition for students in Pre-K through Grade 12. Students from all five South Pasadena schools have the opportunity to submit a piece of art in one of six categories including: Dance Choreography Film Production... Literature Music Composition Photography Visual Arts This year’s theme is I Matter Because All art must be submitted digitally to their respective schools. Students can enter to win prizes, scholarships and more. For more information please contact your schools’ PTA. #southpasadenan

On our final day of recognition for our Honorary Service Awards Recipients, the South Pasadena Middle School Parent Teacher Association would like to honor Mr. Todd Brown, long time math teacher and coach, with a scholarship in his memory for $500 to South Pasadena High School. Thank you for the many years you dedicated to the students of South Pasadena Middle School. You are missed.

When you’re down in the trenches, your saving grace is having someone like Lisa Henderson fighting along your side. I had heard of her fierce endurance and brilliant tactics before I met her. When I stumbled into a Marengo Talent Show audition a few years back, her steady calm immediately put me at ease. She ran that show (for 7 years) with grounded fortitude and can-do-fix-it mentality that made sure all the little soldiers got in line to shine their brightest. Stepping in t...o Chair the Middle School musical, she brought that same steady perseverance. Lisa knows how to talk to administrators, theatre geeks, and stage-parents alike, with ease and direction to make sure the show went on as smoothly as possible. Showing up to guide unknowing parents through onstage teenage angst and showmanship, Lisa always had our backs. She brought stage makeup for pre-show shiny faces, and organized concession stands that provided wrap-party celebrations. She brought unsure, reluctant tweens into auditions, and applauded them through hour after hour of rehearsals in an often freezing and/or overheated auditorium, until they owned the spotlight, surprising, and delighting us all. Granted, helping the PTA for middle schoolers is not a war, but there are moments when you feel like you’re going to battle. Lisa Henderson is the soldier you want in that foxhole with you. Thank you, Lisa for all your hours, Energizer-bunny energy, and creative can-do spirit. We are so very grateful.

A long-term volunteer is one of the most desired candidates for any position in the South Pasadena Community. Kim Carlson is definitely one of those. In her time at the Middle School Kim has served on the Executive Board as the 3rd Vice President of Membership, Wish Night Coordinator and Historian. While on the Executive Board Kim came up with the brilliant idea of the three in one donation packet, which helped to increase financial contributions and participation levels amon...g Middle School Families. Kim's level of expertise and knowledge base in regards to all things PTA, has been an invaluable asset to the organization. Kim is energetic and positive, and approaches all challenges with a willingness to find positive outcomes and create new approaches that will benefit all of the middle school community. In addition to her Executive Board positions, Kim has volunteered to serve on or lead multiple Nomination Committees, helping find the amazing volunteers that make up our PTA leaders. Kim is always available and willing to participate when asked and contributes to countless programs on the middle school campus. For these reasons and so many more, we are honored to award Kim Carlson with the Honorary Service Award. Thank you for your service, we hope to see you on the board again in the future. See more
