Today is Reformation Day! By the end of the seventeenth century, many Lutheran churches celebrated a festival commemorating Martin Luther's posting of the Ninet...y-five Theses, a summary of abuses in the church of his time. At the heart of the reform movement was the gospel, the good news that it is by grace through faith that we are justified and set free. (Bread for the Day 2020, p. 415) See more

Put away from you all bitterness and wrath and anger and wrangling and slander, together with all malice, and be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ has forgiven you. -Ephesians 4:31-32

God of new life, you have reconciled the world to yourself through Christ your Son. Make us a new creation, guide us in the work of reconciliation, and teach us to be ambassadors for Christ. -Bread for the Day

from Henri J. M. Nouwen To wait open-endly is an enormously radical attitude toward life. It is trusting that something will happen to us that is far beyond our own imaginings. It is giving up control over the conviction that God molds us according to God’s love and not according to our fear. The spiritual life is a life in which we wait, actively present to the moment, expecting that new things will happen to us, new things that are beyond our own imagination and prediction. That, indeed, is a very radical stance toward life in a world preoccupied with control.
