Tonight we celebrated the life of an incredible member of this team: Mark Hubenette. This UTV will forever be dedicated to him and his contribution to our team. Mark’s radio callsign, SAR 119, will be retired from the roster and no other member will ever be issued that callsign. We lost you too soon, Mark, but your contributions and friendship will live on forever. You will be missed. Mark Hubenette SAR 119 EOW 6/29/19

Yesterday, our team practiced various search tactics and techniques at Willow Creek Campground: buffer searches, area searches, K9 flanking, etc. The circumstances of the incident may dictate varying techniques in order to be successful, so it is important that the entire team be proficient in each approach.

This weekend, five members of our Search and Rescue team helped the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office with the rescue of 8 and 5-year-old sisters who had wandere...d into the woods and survived for a weekend on their own. Humboldt County did a remarkable job as this was a miraculous find. We were able to get the kids out of the woods and to their parents using our utility vehicles. We were very happy to help and so glad this had a happy ending!!!

Tonight we conducted a full-scale mock search scenario in real-time to shake down gear, processes, vehicles, and mindset. During the course of the search, we performed a low-angle rope rescue of a simulated patient with a serious leg injury. Mock searches are a great opportunity for our team to test all of their skills in a single operation.

Our hard-working, dedicated volunteers of the Sheriff’s Search and Rescue team were called out last night to find a missing 73-year-old man with dementia in Roh...nert Park. Using a heat seeking infrared camera, they spotted him deep in a creek bed in need of medical assistance. Our Search and Rescue team undoubtedly saved a life last night, given the cold elements. Great job team!!!! Great find, your work is so appreciated!!
