Our in-person, on-bike series commenced this week with City of Petaluma Parks and Recreation and Town of Windsor, CA Parks and Rec Dept, with our kids on-bike skills lesson! Chec out all our virtual and in-person Family Bicycliing options by visiting https://sonomasaferoutes.org/c/family-bicycling-workshops-0! To register for any of the lessons in our on-bike series, visit the Parks and Recreation activity sites for Windsor, Petaluma, and Santa Rosa (SR classes begin at the end of Feb). We are excited to announce that February is Walk & Roll for Our HeARTS month with Safe Routes to School! We encourage Sonoma County K-8 students to Walk & Roll to Anywhere during the first week of February, AND/OR stretch their creative muscles by entering our Walk & Roll for Our Hearts ART contest and illustrating why it's healthy for our hearts, minds and body to walk, bike, scoot, or skate to anywhere! This February, sign up for one or more of our free, Virtual Family Bike Workshops! Basic Bike Maintenance for Families on Tuesday 2/16 at 3pm; Intro to Family Bicycling: Tips and Tricks for Bicycling with the Whole Family on Saturday 2/20 at 2pm; Bicycling Street Skills for Parents: Ride in the Road Confidently with Kids on Tuesday 2/23 at 3pm; and Route Planning & Great Sonoma County Family Rides on Saturday 2/27 at 2pm. This Saturday 9/26 we are offering a FREE Family Bike Workshop on Route Planning & Great Sonoma County Family Rides. If you've got kids and struggle with how to plan the best/safest route, OR are looking for fun places to ride in Sonoma County, please join us! The workshop is from 10:30-11:30am, we will leave time after the presentation for participants to ask questions and get specific advice or suggestions. and we'll stick around to answer them all before we sign off! We will be continuing our Family Bicycling Workshop series in August, with a repeat of our Level 1 class, Intro to Family Bicycling: Tips and Tools for Bicycling with the Whole Family, and the launch of our Level 2 class: Bicycling Street Skills for Parents: Ride in the Road Confidently with Kids. We've extended the end-date of our Green Sneaker Family Challenge to May 31st! Walk, Bicycle, scooter, or skate in your home neighborhood (while social distancing). If you can't go outside, excercise indoors! 30-days of activity is the goal, but you're eligible for our drawing if you turn in your forms regardless of whether you reach that goal. New! We may be sheltering-in-place, but fresh air and physical activity is essential to our physical and emotional health. That is why the Sonoma County SRTS program has launched our Green Sneaker Family Challenge. Today our Safe Routes to School Bike Rodeo crew was at the City of Santa Rosa Public Works' Back to School Bike Blast, along with the Bike Peddler/ NorCal Bike ...Sport, California Highway Patrol, Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit, and more. We gave away free helmets sponsored by Sutter Health, offered free bike repairs and guidance, and taught ~60 kids how to ride safely! A few even learned how to ride a bike! See more
