Today, on Indigenous Peoples' Day, we honor the Southern Pomo, Coast Miwok, and Wappo peoples. To the ancestors and tribal members of today: You are the origina...l people to love the land in Sonoma County. Today, and every day, provides the opportunity to celebrate and honor the histories, cultures, contributions, strength, and resilience of contemporary native peoples. Don't miss the Indigenous Peoples Day celebration on Zoom through Santa Rosa Junior College (see the invite on our Facebook page!) for Pomo dancing later this afternoon at 2pm PST. The preserves in the graphic (Ocean Song, Bohemia , Riddell) are located on Coast Miwok, Southern Pomo, and Dry Creek Rancheria Band of Pomo Indians territories.

HALTER Project is a major provider of critical supplies to support volunteer missions and residents recovering from the impacts of disasters. We purchase suppli...es and establish emergency accounts at our local family-owned feed stores. Here, we’re delivering a trailer load of animal feed and supplies to the Napa Community Animal Response Team - Napa CART Command Center & Large Animal Shelter. These supplies were purchased by the HALTER Project from super community partner, RiverTown Feed & Pet Country Store in Petaluma. We also pick up supplies during every disaster from Brocco's Old Barn in Sonoma. And, although closed due to the Mandatory Evacuation Order, Swede's Feeds Pet and Garden in Kenwood made it possible for us to get supplies for use inside the Kewood-Glen Ellen Evac Zone. A big shout out to the Sonoma County Department of Agriculture, Sonoma County Animal Services, and the Sonoma Sheriff for enabling us and other Disaster Service Worker volunteers to move safely in and out of areas under Evacuation orders, to help find and care for pets, equines and livestock. When people know their animals are okay and being cared for (and searched for) it helps them cope better with the trauma disasters cause to families. Resilience requires huge measures of hope - and that’s what we help deliver. For ways to help animals welfare organizations and communities in the Western US, and the world, recovery from recent and ongoing disasters, see our suggestions at HALTERproject.org

As per CAL FIRE Sonoma-Lake-Napa Unit the Glass Fire is 61,150 acres and is 8% contained. Our volunteer teams have been out providing necessary food and water t...o so many animals in need, including two adorable pot belly pigs who were so grateful for some delicious, healthy snacks. Our teams will be working hard over these next several days, ensuring that animals have all that they need until families can safely return home. After a day spent evacuating our cattle (partnered with BeeWell Farms cattle) and ensuring that other livestock and poultry are safe and have plenty of water & ...feed, we are now in Napa to work again with our Napa Community Animal Response Team - Napa CART teammates. Many of you are asking, How can I help? Here’s how: Be ready. Make sure your animals are as prepared and safe as possible. Then, do your best to help others: your neighbors, your relatives, your book club and golf buddies everyone you know. We’ve provided super tools and resources. But it takes a BIG village to keep animals and people safer during and after disasters. Help us help YOUR community! Thank you, stay safe, stay strong. See more
