Lily found her forever home! The lovely couple saw Lily on our website and knew it was meant to be. They had extensive experience owning three-legged kitties. When they finally got to meet her, it was a match! We wish Lily and her family all the best in their new adventures together! If you'd like to support our ability to care for pets like Lily who need extra medical attention, please consider donating at this link: https://licensepet.com/wl3/don/sonowd/705
As you complete your storm preparations, we want to make sure you know how to contact us if you need help with your animals tonight. Please share these numbers with anyone who may need our help with evacuation as the storm progresses. Please also bring any pets inside if possible if you haven't already. As always, we will get through this together. We are and will continue to be #SonomaStrong.
THANK YOU!! You have outdone yourselves. We have received (& we know there are still more that will arrive) loads of warm, cozy blankets that will keep our animals so warm during this cold snap and beyond. We should be covered on blankets for a while. We go through treats a little more quickly, so we can certainly continue to use your help with those. We truly appreciate our community so much for all you do to support our animals. For treat ideas: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/1F1AEVDCO4IJJ As always, you can ship to 1247 Century Ct Santa Rosa, CA 95403

Sweet Sunday Mornings: We could all use a little more sweetness, so we'll be sharing a series of success stories. On September 12th one of our ACO’s was dispatched out to Sebastopol. A Good Samaritan had noticed a dog dragging a tether in the area for a few days. The kind neighbors would put water out, but this dog was very skittish and would not approach anyone. It was also reported he was growling and potentially being aggressive. When the officer arrived he was able to ide...ntify the dog’s behavior was likely due to fear. The dog wouldn’t let our officer near him, but luckily he was able to maneuver the dog back to be able to grab the tether he was dragging. When the dog arrived at the shelter, staff also was not able to handle him. He was extremely fearful and growling. His behavior persisted during his stay- he would not let staff near him. Fortunately, with a little bit of TLC, our staff was able to get him to come out of his shell. This took some time, but he eventually became ready to be transferred to one of our partners. Once he was transferred to Humane Society of Sonoma County, he found his forever home and was adopted! See more
Today we have our Mobile Animal Center out at Howarth Park. We are participating in the City of Santa Rosa, California 's Halloween at Howarth. Because of COVID, the participants are doing a drive thru. We have dogs, cats, and a pair of guinea pigs for the kids to see.
Mother-Daughter look-a-like contest: Cast your vote! This is Moira, a wonderful mama cat who was brought in with her five kittens. When they arrived at the shelter, the kittens were very small and needed extra care to grow up healthy. A veteran foster volunteer helped us to take great care of the whole family while the kittens were growing. Below is a picture of Moira and her three female kittens. Who do you think resembles Moira the most? Cast your vote below! *Please note- we are currently closed for adoptions, but available cats & kittens make their way to our partner Western Farm Center when they are ready for adoption. Please stop by there if you are interested in adding a new kitty to your family.

We're so grateful to each of you who voted for us in the P.L.A.Y. 2020 September Warm Bellies Voters' Choice Competition! We thought an appropriate "thank you" would be a video of our sweet kittens enjoying the cozy beds from P.L.A.Y. Pet Lifestyle And You! Thank you as well to Petfinder Foundation for making this possible!

With the recent hot weather, we've been receiving too many calls for over heated animals who've been left in hot cars, or transported in the back of trucks in kennels. Please help us spread the word about heat safety awareness by SHARING this post! All too often we hear, "I thought they had enough shade" and/or "I was only going to run into the store for a moment". Heatstroke is preventable by leaving companion animals at home either indoors or outside in cool shade with lots... of water. Additionally, please remember that sidewalks, gravel and especially asphalt gets hot too! All of us have the best intentions of taking our beloved companions out for a walk or to get exercise...but increasing temperatures can lead to burns on their paw pads. Please remember the 5 second rule: Place the back of your hand on the ground for 5secs, "if it's too hot for you, it's too hot for them!"
