Happy Black History Month! Highlighting Black history is important now and always. As we enter Black History Month, we are honoring the achievements of Black leaders, remembering the hardship and adversity brought on by racial injustice, and focusing on the importance of creating a society that is inclusive and equitable for all. #BlackHistoryMonth
CFSC is proud to support CVNL Center for Volunteer & Nonprofit Leadership's Secret Santa program. With the holidays approaching, Secret Santa needs your help. 12,238 holiday wishes were submitted this year via hearts, and to date, only 1,200 hearts have been adopted. Needs are even greater due to COVID-19 and the recent fires. In addition, nonprofit giving programs have had to shift this year, affecting donations and volunteers alike. Individuals can still make a tremendous difference to those who need assistance this holiday season by contributing online.

When news of the coronavirus hit, the staff at COTS - in California (Committee On The Shelterless) stepped into action to ensure the unhoused population they serve would be protected. COTS operates the 112 bed Mary Isaak Center Shelter in Petaluma, and staff knew that sheltering in close proximity to others would make people living in shelters exceptionally vulnerable to COVID. Here’s how they responded

This year, they are taking their auction online, see below for details!
With a recent survey from Pew Research Center reporting that at least one-third of Americans have displayed clinical signs of anxiety, depression, or both since the pandemic began, mental health organizations are busier than ever. Fortunately, NAMI Sonoma County is here with support groups, classes and a warmline to support families and individuals impacted by mental illness.
The volume of meals delivered by Ceres Community Project to medically vulnerable clients has tripled in response to the COVID-19 crisis, all while its operations have had to change to accommodate social distancing requirements. Ceres’ annual Harvest of the Heart fundraising campaign has transitioned to an online format, with a virtual event on September 12. It will raise funds to help offset the increased costs of providing more meals to more clients.
CFSC has made almost $10 million in grants from the Resilience Fund since its inception for emergency assistance and mid- to long-term recovery from the devastating series of disasters we have experienced over the past three years. The Community Foundation stands ready to make emergency grants to support urgent needs as they emerge from the area’s newest disaster, the LNU Lightning Complex Fires.
Due to home and other property losses, victims of the LNU Lightning Complex fires are now facing the formidable task of applying for insurance claims, a task that United Policyholders can, and has helped with, over the past several years of tragic Northern California wildfires. For more information on the services United Policyholders offers, go to https://www.uphelp.org/programs/roadmap-to-recovery. To help support the organization. go to https://donatenow.networkforgood.org/1437516
Sonoma County has seen unimaginable hardship these past three years. A fire that destroyed over 5,300 homes in 2017, flooding and a 77,000 acre fire in 2019, and now the back-to-back burden of the coronavirus and Lightning Complex Fires coming at the same time. We launched the Sonoma County Resilience Fund in 2017 to support our community’s long-term disaster recovery and resilience.... We have made more than $9.6 million in grants to support nonprofit organizations working on the front lines of disaster recovery since 2017. Our work continues. Donate today: sonomacf.org/fire
In the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, local theater arts organizations are still finding ways to connect with audienceswith a little help.
