I have a question for you..... Are you prepared for when you or a loved one passes away? Not a feel good post but a very important and necessary one.... I recently sold a home for a wonderful lady who passed away 7 days before I closed on her house. It was awful. Never have I experienced something like this. The reason I'm sharing this is because people need to take action and not delay what should be done today. It's so important to have your affairs in order and your home in a Living Trust. Thank goodness my client had her property in a Living Trust, had her Power of Attorney in place and all her affairs were in order. So many do not. The people whom you love who are left behind to handle your affairs need to be able to grieve your loss without the headache and nightmare that sometimes occurs trying to figure out what to do next. In this case, my client's family was able to grieve their mother's death without having to worry about her affairs. I am currently helping a family whose mother recently passed away. She did not have her property or affairs in order and unfortunately it’s a night and day experience compared to my previous client. They are currently going through the probate process and it’s horrible for the family to have to deal with. If you own real estate do you have it in a Living Trust? (A will does not keep the property out of probate as many think) Do you have a Power of Attorney in place? Do you have an Advance Health Care Directive/HIPPA Authorization Form in place? Ask yourself "who is going to take care of my property/affairs once that day comes for you? People think they have time and put it off. Yes it does cost money, but the expense and emotional burden left behind for your loved ones will be significantly reduced. I am 50 years young and had mine done 5 years ago. It gives me piece of mind that when I do pass or God forbid something happens to me where I can’t make my own decisions, my loved ones will know exactly how to handle my affairs without question or confusion. It’s never too early to prepare your affairs for when you are no longer aliveunless it is too late...
