In addition to the smell, deputies noticed there was loose marijuana in the vehicle's center console. ... Based on probable cause, deputies searched the car and located a loaded handgun in the passenger compartment. Donuts = guns. On December 1st, our south beat deputies were parked near the intersection of Glen Cove and Benicia Road in Vallejo. They soon heard the old familiar sound of tires screeching and noticed a white sedan doing donuts in the intersection. Just as quickly as it started doing donuts, the car stopped and drove south on Glen Cove Road. Deputies got behind the vehicle and activated their overhead lights to conduct an enforcement stop. The driver looked directly at t...he deputies and decided he had other plans. The car quickly accelerated, and a pursuit began. During the pursuit, the car pulled over and the front passenger, 26-year-old Israel Sloan of Vallejo, ran off. As Sloan ran, an AR-15 styled rifle fell to the ground and he tossed a handgun at a car parked nearby. Shortly thereafter, Sloan was taken into custody without incident. Because of public safety concerns, the pursuit was canceled, and the driver is still outstanding. Sloan was arrested for being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of ammo by a prohibited person, and other firearm-related charges. "Dedicated to Community Service."

Best Friends Furever A few short months ago our Solano County Search and Rescue volunteers were called upon to assist in the aftermath of the North Complex West Fire in Butte County. Without hesitation these dedicated volunteers packed up and hit the road. They spent the next few days and nights driving and walking through the fire ravaged rural area of Berry Creek. They faced many hazards as trees and hotspots continued to smolder and rocks and debris fell near them. Our... SAR members are trained to watch out for these hazards as they look for clues that could help them locate a missing person. Clues as hard to spot as bent blades of grass or a couple broken branches. This attention to detail helped SAR volunteer Jonathan Bish take notice of a small hole in the burned hillside. Something about that hole just seemed odd, so Jonathan took a closer look and we are sure glad he did. Inside the hole was a hungry, scared and very dirty calico cat. SAR volunteer Dave Nelson was able to reach into the hole and safely remove the frightened cat. The team spent the next few minutes calming this sweet kitty before giving it some water and a few nibbles of food. They then drove their new-found feline friend to animal control to receive care and shelter until reunited with its family. This was the purr-fect way to end our team's mission in Butte County

Another false tab leads to more guns On the evening of November 3rd, a deputy from Team 3 conducted a records check on a car traveling near Vanden Rd. in the city of Fairfield. The DMV record return indicated the vehicle’s registration had expired in 2019; however, the car had a current registration tab (2020) attached to the back-license plate. To investigate the false tab violation, the deputy conducted an enforcement stop on the car, driven by 26-year-old Martin Jesus Lo...pez-Bravo of Fairfield. While conversing with the deputy, Bravo advised he had no driver’s license and admitted there were two guns in his car. To ensure Bravo was transporting the firearms in accordance with the law, deputies searched Bravos’ car and located the two firearms he previously mentioned. One of the guns was a loaded semi-automatic rifle, and the other was a loaded semi-automatic pistol. Post investigation, deputies arrested Bravo for carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle, possessing a loaded firearm not registered, and other related charges.

#TeamTuesday Meet Sgt. Corey McLean What do you do for Solano County SO? ... I am a Sergeant at the Sheriff’s Office and the Supervisor in the Coroner’s Office. How long have you worked for Solano County SO? I have worked for the Sheriff’s Office for 23 years. I’ve worked in Patrol, Court Services, Community Policing, Transportation, and in the Coroner’s Office. I spent time on the Sheriff’s Office Dive Rescue Team and ten years on the Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard. Why did you decide to pursue a career in law enforcement? I decided to pursue a career in law enforcement many years ago. I had a friend from high school who was an officer with the Vacaville Police Department, and I went on several ride-alongs with her. I thought the job seemed interesting and exciting. I had another good friend who was an officer with the California Highway Patrol, who encouraged me to enroll in the Police Academy. What is the best thing about your job? The best thing about the law enforcement job is working with so many dedicated people who share a common goal. Tell us something about your job that the community doesn’t know. With respect to death investigations, the community is unaware that not every death that occurs in the county will require an autopsy. In general, the Coroner’s Office is responsible for determining the cause and manner of sudden, unexpected, violent, and accidental deaths. A person that died while under the care of a physician or who had a documented serious health history would not need to be examined by our office. Who are your role models and why? A list of my role models would have to start with my father. He taught me the values that I hold dear, and he taught me how to respect people and nature. I look up to the many deputies who came before me. Many have retired, and some have passed away, but it was through their guidance and example that I have had the success that I now enjoy. I have profound respect for the young men and women who are just starting their careers in law enforcement. It is encouraging, that in the current political climate where law enforcement is often vilified and ridiculed, there are those who are still willing to wear the uniform and join the fight to enforce the law. Lastly, I have the utmost respect for the men and women who are serving and who have served in the United States Armed Forces. We are the land of the free because of the brave!

Regardless of the results of the 2020 election, there seems to be a concern that the United States will see civil unrest in its aftermath. The question is, how are law enforcement agencies preparing for it? The Sheriff’s Office has NOT received any credible information, which would lead us to believe there will be civil unrest in our area. However, we are keeping abreast of the climate and continually monitoring for any changes. In order to stay ahead, we will be upstaffing o...ur patrol shifts and will have additional personnel on standby to respond if needed. We will also be working with allied agencies to heighten safety during this election. Rest assured, we are here for our community! #Election2020

Another criminally possessed gun off the streets. On October 18, one of our deputies was patrolling the city of Vallejo when he noticed a sedan with no front bumper (violation 28701 C.V.C) driving near the intersection of Lemon St. / Thomas Ave. Based on the noted violation, the deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle. The driver, 26-year-old Champagne Jackson of Oakland, failed to pull over and continued driving for over a quarter-mile. Ultimately, deputi...es conducted a high-risk vehicle stop on Dolores Dr., and Jackson was safely taken into custody. During an inventory search of the vehicle, deputies located a loaded handgun on the driver’s side floorboard. Subsequently, Jackson was arrested for a concealed weapon in a vehicle, a prohibited person in possession of a firearm, and other related charges. Dedicated to community service.
