The Safety Squat Bar is just for people who have bad shoulder mobility and can’t use a straight bar right? WRONG The SSB actually has a tremendous amount of benefits for even the most mobile of lifters. The cambered shape of the bar completely changes the weight distribution from that of a normal barbell squat. Placing significantly more stress on the upper back, the SSB can help you to build up your posterior chain and prevent you from rounding over in your squat.... It additionally places significantly more stress on the core, resulting in tons of progress for lifters who may struggle with instability or a lack of core strength. The SSB can also help to limit lower back, knee, and hip stress for many lifters, providing them with an option to continue progressing their squat. Don’t have an SSB at your gym? Reach out and see how you can become a member of SoCal Powerlifting today. We have everything you need See more

The GHD (Glute-Hamstring Developer) is an awesome piece of equipment that can improve your lifts in a multitude of ways. The primary use of a GHD is to perform the exercise known as a GHR (Glute-Hamstring Raise). The GHR is an awesome exercise, working nearly the entire posterior chain at once. While most hamstring exercises simply involve knee flexion or hip extension, the GHR pushes your hamstrings to the extreme, forcing you to simultaneously flex at the knees and extend a...t the hips. This hip extension is also a great exercise for glute development. Unfortunately, GHRs are often far too difficult for some lifters. Many of these lifters can introduce GHRs into their programs by using their arms to assist on the concentric, pushing off the handles on the way up. Then, the lifter can use their legs to control the eccentric, slowly lowering themselves back to the starting position. Over time, the goal is to be able to do the exercise with only the lower body. The use of a PVC pipe or pole to push off the floor is another great option for lifters struggling to perform a full GHR properly. If you’re interested in learning about other benefits of the GHD, stay tuned for future posts! If your gym doesn’t have a GHD, it might be time to find a new gym.
