Gov. @gavinnewsom, your veto on SB1257 is preventing domestic workers from getting basic worker protections. We need health and safety protections for all workers. #sb1257myhealthmysafety #diein @cadomesticworkers

Domestic workers and day laborers are first responders to wildfires in residential areas. Workers have unexpectedly used water hoses to protect their employer’s homes and pets from wildfires, putting them in life-threatening situations. Swipe right to read about a day laborer’s experience fighting the 2018 #WoolseyFire in Malibu, California. #SB1257 #ValueMyLabor #MyHealthMyDignity #CaliforniaWildfires... We just wrapped up our 2nd online training on How to Prevent Workplace Violence. Thank you Southern California Coalition for Occupational Safety and Health and ...UCLA Labor Occupational Safety and Health (LOSH) Program for leading us into a better understanding of workplace violence and giving tips on how we can protect ourselves. Domestic workers have historically been excluded in labor laws on health and safety protections. And now is the time to end that. Together with the CA Domestic Workers Coalition, we are calling on Governor Gavin Newsom to sign #SB1257, the Health and Safety for All Workers act now and end the exclusion of caregivers, nannies, home attendants, house cleaners and other domestic workers from health and safety protections. #myhealthmydignity

After months of discussion, California’s Division of Occupational Safety and Health will move forward with emergency statewide standards to address what worker advocates have been calling an occupational health emergency. A seven-member board appointed by Gov. Gavin Newsom voted unanimously Thursday to begin creating standards that would require employers to take stricter precautions against COVID-19. It’s really impossible for anyone to claim this is not an emergency and not a significant problem we need to address, board member Laura Stock, an occupational health expert, said in urging her colleagues to vote yes.
