our home no. 6 another view of the most used room in the house. serving as kitchen, dining room, mini living room (i’m sitting on the sofa) and my office. that’s the original hinge table surrounded by black ash thor chairs. on the other side of the table we have one of our live edge black mars benches. as 2020 comes to a wrap, feeling very grateful for all the people who have supported us through the years and have chosen to include us in their homes. truly very honored! thank you!

our home, no. 3 just before we moved in five years ago, we redesigned and redid the kitchen. 2nd pic is the before (obviously, ). check out the crack in the concrete floor to orient yourself between the two shots. standard home depot special replaced by standard ikea cabinets, craigslist stove (that was a serious score) and custom solid walnut shelves. as a family, we spend the most time here...kitchen, dining room, my office, all in one. my favorite room.

our home #2 this is the view to my right as i sit in front of my desk in my ‘office’ at home which is in a space that is also our kitchen and our dining room.

the first in our home series a lot of visitors to our oakland shop always ask me if our house looks like the shop and my answer is, it does and it doesn’t. it does in that we do have a lot of alessandro-designed pieces in our home; some from pre-sobu days and a lot of sobu designs. but... alessandro and i grew up in the bay area and so we have pieces that were given to us by family and others that we have had for so long (before we had kids) that it’s just not possible to let go of them. also, we have 2 kiddos and 2 dogs, so absolutely nothing in our house is too precious or fragile. our home gets messy pretty much as soon as we clean up. it’s a lived-in and cozy place, despite the concrete floors. and i promise to share our home as it is, and not clean up too much if at all. perfection is not as interesting as nuanced

our reclaimed teak rocker...one of the original sobu designs that launched our shop typically has a black frame. this one a one-of-a-kind production sample. available at our shop and on our site. our modern take on the rocker!

the light at the shop can truly be ethereal. i snapped this towards the end of the day today on my days at the shop there isn’t a moment of pause. here are some of the many varied things i did today in case you are wondering ‘what is it like to have a shop?’:: i moved furniture around, made price tags, answered phone calls and questions about products, packed up 2 large framed photos, wrote a note about a sold floor model to shawn (awesome sobu employee), talked to visitor...s, watered the plants inside and outside, exchanged a couple of texts with my mom, exchanged a couple of texts with my awesome neighbor, put some wood swatches in my bag to take home and mail to a customer this weekend, answered and wrote emails, updated our website’s homepage, closed up briefly to grab a bite (pizza) at market hall up the street, stopped to chat with emily at goldenbug shoes (fellow shop owner who we’ve known for years, she and husband scott also own cafe 817 in old oakland and our original sobu location was down the street from them), helped ted (awesome sobu employee) inspect a mirror he picked up to deliver to a customer in sf, hung out and laughed with jacquie who lives down the street and whose amazing drawings we showcase at the shop, introduced alessandro (who briefly stopped by to pick up a chair) to some nice customers who had just bought one of his designs (mars dining table)...it was a good day!
