That’s Matt in the Yellow Schweizer 1-34 flying over the Sierra’s back in the day. He brought in a bunch of old glider photos to show us from 29 Palms, and other spots in Cali. We were joking with him that he’s not smiling in the glider photo and we said don’t you ever smile?...and he laughingly said No I don’t! What?.... with a smile like that? Oh yes she did it!!! This 13 year old has been diligently training and yesterday, which was her 14th birthday, SHE SOLO’D beautifully! But it was not easy getting here. There were glitches with the FAA system to print out her student pilot certificate, but with the help of her dad and cooperation from the FAA departments after a few hours, we were good to go. Sky’s parents told us that they made her really work for this privilege, because nothing worthwhile in life is given.... They also instilled in her that actions have consequences. Check out all the photos and you can feel the nerves, but also the pride and joy from her parents, Sky herself and from her instructor Jim and all of us here at the Soaring Academy. It is a priveledge to do what we do and when we come across families like this one, where they emphasize following your dreams but with principles grounded in personal responsibility, it’s not only an extra joyful event, but this sort of group collaboration contributes to the making of a very fine young Aviatrix. Look out world because here she comes!!! Way to go Sky, you’ve made us and your fellow aviators proud, especially that unique little club of who’ve all solo’d at 14! Congratulations!
