Training for a Surface Warfare Officer (SWO) begins right away at the Basic Division Officer Course (BDOC), where students learn and hone their skills in both navigation and seamanship as well as maritime warfare. Ultimately this helps pave the way for SWOs to step onboard their ships and increase the lethality of the Surface Force!

It's #WTIwednesday at SMWDC! Check out LT Nate Pruthi, an Anti-Submarine Warfare/Surface Warfare (ASW/SUW) Warfare Tactics Instructor (WTI) assigned to SMWDC Sea Combat Division training department where he is an instructor at Sea Combat Division WTI Schoolhouse. Why did you want to become a WTI? ... "Throughout the daily grind of fire prevention, toxic gas response, engineering casualty response, and VCHT issues my rewarding second tour as a Damage Control Assistant (DCA) left me feeling as if all of my tactical knowledge had been replaced by the immediate and controlling actions for shipboard damage control and engineering casualties. I knew I needed more training in tactics. It was clear to me that becoming a Warfare Tactics Instructor (WTI) would allow me to sharpen my tactical skills and also allow me to work alongside many talented and smart individuals within our Fleet today. I look forward to being able to teach and shape future WTIs as well as being able to teach ASW/SUW tactics to watchstanders throughout the Fleet in order to develop Combat Ready warships and battle-minded crews." #NavyTheNationNeeds #NavyLethality #CultureOfExcellence Surface Warriors Surface Force Atlantic PERS-41: Surface Warfare Officer Assignments
