Watch what happens as children from low income families are faced with a decision:
A helpful reminder to all of us... It's been really hard for many of us. By being in the present moment we can help ourselves and model it for our kids.
People who know me well know that I am not a fan of delivering psychotropic medications to a developing brain unless all other options have been explored. I wholeheartedly agree with Dr. Newmark at UCSF Osher Center sharing his science and experience-informed opinion on the subject of treatment of AD/HD. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JsjRSfHAUXk
It’s been a while now that life has looked different. We all have challenges we didn’t have 4+ months ago. We also all express our stress and worry differently. It can be a lot to manage your own thoughts, feelings, and emotions right now. It feels a bit rollercoaster like or riding waves and processing all that is going on. Our children in our lives also are experiencing stress and worry and with the school year approaching and hard choices to be made that only adds to it al...l. They too have thoughts, feelings, and emotions but don’t know how to process them in a clear way always, that’s where we can help. I found this list really helpful. We all need to have more grace and patience with ourselves and each other. I often ask myself, when I’m feeling stressed or worried or just out of sorts how do I want someone to respond to me? I then try to be that person for my child. Take a look at the list, is there one or two (or more) that your child or children are expressing? How can you help them? Be there for them? Hang in there! -SMARTT Mama Blogger
Lexicon for a pandemic
I stumbled upon this on Instagram and found it helpful. We so often talk about boundaries in our own lives as adults or boundaries with our children to help them learn and grow. I find it hard to say no to things sometimes I just don’t want to do, or have done a million times, or just need a break from. As hard as it can be to say no to our kids, I think it also teaches them how to take a break themselves or how to respond to a friend. There’s nothing wrong with their request, they have every right to ask to play tag or blocks or listen to let it go for the 4,000 time , but we also don’t always have to say yes. These responses felt helpful, maybe you’ll find them helpful too. -SMARTT Mama Blogger
