There are so many weighted straw cups on the market! When parents ask which is best, I find it most helpful to share what FEATURES are best. Cups come and go, ...but you’ll always know what features to shop for if you follow these guidelines: . No valve: Valves are what make a cup spillproof, but valves can also create unusual motor patterns in our little learning eaters. I don’t want a child to have to bite then brace, then sip. . The pattern we are striving for is lip rounded and sucking with control, not force. . The munchkin, as much as I like this cup, has a tricky valve inside the end of the straw. You can cut it off, making it less than spillproof, but be careful not to cut too short! . Short, firm straw: Remember my rule The tip of the straw should just reach the tip of your child’s tongue. Why? Because that tongue tip needs to reach UP to develop that mature swallow pattern described under my sippy cup post. The straw must be flexible but firm to provide the support for the lips to round. . Amazon’s Mama Bear’s straw collapses when kids suck on it. Enough said. . Removable handles: Yes, we want that cup to fit in a cup holder (hello!) but we also want to help baby develop the ability to hold an open cup with ease. Once baby is stable and able to hold, lift and drink from a straw cup, remove the handles to practice holding an open cup, even though today it’s a straw cup. . Drumroll pleaseSPILLPROOF. Let’s settle for less spill instead. That’s why I love the @lollalandusa cup. It has all the features I look for in a cup (bonus, it’s so cute!) and it’s very low spill. Plus, I like the way the lid rotates and shuts with a satisfying CLICK that’s easy for littles to open and shut. . Yes, it costs a bit more, but I feel it’s worth it. Easy to cleanMEH. Let’s be real. None of these cups are that easy to clean, it takes a few extra steps. But easy enough to clean is fine with me. . #melaniepotock #honestopinion #strawcups #feedinglittles #mylittleeater #yourtoddler #blw #blwinspiration #slp #momtips #momadvice #momlife #feedingmykid #sippycups #strawcup #toddlermomlife See more

Play time is important to learning! There is NO app to replace it. There is no app to replace your lap. Toddlers learn best through playful experiences and interactions that are relevant and meaningful to their life (no through drill work, flash cards, or screen time). - Cari Ebert
