Today we had the pleasure of training explosive odor detection with the San Francisco Fire Department, San Francisco Police Department and the Department of Homeland Security. Thank you to the Academy of Arts in San Francisco for lending us a great training site.
Officer Kambic/K-9 Rocco and Officer Moschetti/K-9 Vito attended the funeral service for fallen Sacramento County Sheriff's K-9 Deputy Adam Gibson today. It was a tough day for all, but there was a tremendous amount of support there from other police agencies and the K-9 community as a whole.
Today we mourn the loss of retired Dos Palos PD K-9 Sampson. Sampson passed away peacefully at home today with his handler by his side. He not only served the city of Dos Palos, but he was a true mentor to our own SLPD K-9s, showing them the ropes as they developed their own skills. Sampson you will truly be missed by all.
Please keep the @sacsheriff family in your thoughts and prayers. Last night, they lost a Deputy and his K-9 partner to gunfire from a parolee and another deputy was also shot.

Retired K9 Jet EOW 11/18/2020 It is with profound sadness we share with you the passing of Retired K9 Jet. On Wednesday November 18, 2020, surrounded by his fa...mily, Jet laid his head down for the last time. He was loved from the moment he arrived in the US to beyond his final breath. You may remember this time last year Jet was in remission after being treated for Lymphoma. Sadly after 14 months of bonus time with his family the cancer returned with renewed fierceness and Jet's body just could not continue the fight. K9 Jet was born in Germany on June 2, 2009 as Stalone vom Eichbaum. Jet trained hard and earned his Schhutzhund 3 before the age of two. He was imported to the US and began training with his new partner Deputy Shawn Rosner to be a Law Enforcement K9 in May 2011. K9 Jet's career started off with a bang. Less than two weeks after becoming a certified dual purpose K9, he found a large quantity of a controlled substance hidden in a suitcase, and then a week later made his first track and apprehension. During K9 Jet’s time working for Placer County Sheriff’s Office (CA) he used his nose, mighty bark, and sometimes teeth to aid in over 150 arrests. Known for his engaging personality and good heart, Jet was an ambassador of goodwill on behalf of law enforcement all over the region. Jet participated in over 500 K9 presentations, demonstrations, and educational events for over 10,000 people. Jet could demonstrate an energetic, powerful, fierce apprehension, then lie down and be trusted to safely let a baby pat him. Jet was a welcome addition at every event he attended. Jet retired with his partner on April 1, 2017. He continued to be an ambassador for K9s raising funds at Foothills K9 Association Comedy nights and other PR events. Jet enjoyed people and everyone loved him. In his lifetime he traveled with his family all over California and the list of over 60 attractions reads like a must see best of CA guidebook including San Francisco, San Diego, Disney properties, Hollywood, Paramount, museums, universities, beaches & lakes. K9 Jet was also the "Best Dog" at his handler’s wedding, wearing a green bow tie because bow ties are cool.
We had the privilege of knowing Tara and her handler, Sgt. Cheney. We trained with them and competed against them. They were an excellent K-9 team and Tara will be missed in our K-9 community. Thoughts with her handler and his family and their police department. Rest in peace sweet girl.
Its with a heavy heart we report that K9 Tara has passed away this evening. Tara at the age of 5 started at SLTPD in 2014 and worked till 2018 when she retired.... Shortly after retirement, Tara battled cancer, which caused her to have a leg amputated. Tara lived cancer free for two more years enjoying her retirement. With only three legs, Tara had plenty of fight and spunk in her. She was a regular at the police department, keeping dispatch safe on many work shifts. In the last couple of months, the cancer returned in her chest, and was beyond surgery and chemo. Tonight members from South Lake Tahoe Police Department, Douglas County Sheriff's Office, East Fork Fire Department, Nevada Highway Patrol, California Highway Patrol, Mono County, friends, family, and community members came out to Honor Tara's Service and support Sergeant Cheney while be brought Tara to the vet. Tara led a fufilling career keeping those around her safe. If you didnt know her, she could look ferocious, but in all reality she was a little mouthy snuggle bug who was the center of attention. The South Lake Tahoe Police Department page will provide more on the service in which we honored Tara in the coming days and we will be sure to share that with everyone. We are greatful for for everyones support, and extremely greatful to Carson Valley Vet Hosptial for caring for our K9's. Rest in peace Tara, E.O.W 11/06/2020 Carson Valley Veterinary Hospital South Lake Tahoe Police Department Douglas County Sheriffs Office D-TAC K9 Left Coast K9
