Future trail alert! The Parks and Recreation Department has been awarded $3.1 million for the design and construction of the Yerba Buena Creek Trail segment of the Juan Bautista de Anza Trail. The 2.75-mile trail will run along Yerba Buena creek, cross the private Santa Margarita Ranch, and include improvements through Santa Margarita, connecting Garden Farms to the Community Park and the Elementary School.

Attention Small Businesses: Impacted by COVID-19? Check out the Workforce Development Board of SLO County's newly released COVID-19 Small Business Grant! This grant program is aimed at assisting small businesses in San Luis Obispo County with <25 employees in preventing potential layoffs or facility closures which would occur due to the impacts of COVID-19. Examples of permissible use of the funds include, but are not limited to: Purchasing remote access equipment or soft...ware that allows employees to work from home rather than being laid off (e.g. computers, printers, telephones, headsets, video conferencing software, etc.); Purchasing cleaning/sanitation supplies and/or services that will allow exposure reduction as business begins to implement a re-opening plan; Other creative approaches and strategies to reduce or eliminate the need for layoffs. Grant funds will be provided as a reimbursement for allowable purchases with a maximum award of $1,500 for businesses of 1-10 employees and a maximum of $2,500 for businesses with 11-25 employees. This week's #SaturdayShoutout goes to Rangers Will Wilkerson, Lee Hicks and Brandon Young, whose life-saving actions at Santa Margarita Lake saved two SLO County residents whose boat had capsized. Ranger Young was able to quickly locate the scene, Ranger Wilkerson was able to position the park boat and Ranger Hicks entered the water and freed the tangled boater. Watch this week's BOS meeting commending these Rangers' quick actions and outstanding provision of public service.
