I learned today of the untimely passing of Dr. Michael Benassi, MD. Mike was a general surgery chief resident at the University of Nevada when I was an intern there. He always had a smile on his face and was genuinely happy to be in the hospital helping people. Rest In Peace Mike. It was my great pleasure to work with you during that year. My condolences to his family.

The entire area in purple in the 1st photo had to be #surgically excised and #sutured for biopsy to establish a diagnosis. #Reconstruction following removal of #skin #cancer. Skin cancer should not be neglected, even in a pandemic. This patient underwent removal of a #skincancer using #Mohs #MicrographicSurgery followed by #reconstruction using only local anesthetic in our office. Mohs Micrographic #Surgery offers the highest cure rate for skin cancers. Key points on this surgical case were: 1) Complete removal of the skin cancer. 2.) Adequate support of the reconstructed nostril to keep t...he nasal airway open. 3.) Natural shape of the reconstructed nostril without upward pull on the edge that would give a look into the nose. This was accomplished using a local #flap of tissue from the #cheek over a #cartilidge #graft from his #ear.
