Clogged pores typically consist of a combination of sebum and dead skin cells that get stuck in the hair follicles beneath. Excess oil production (common in oily skin types) and lack of exfoliation- causes a buildup of dead skin cells. . I like to use analogy of the kitche’s garbage- the garbage can will slowly fill up every day. When it fills up..., it’s time to clean out the trash. If we leave it as is, it overflows and doesn’t look too pretty. Eventually the garbage fills up and we must put a new bag in order to keep the kitchen clean. Same with pores- Every day our pores produce oil, the pores are slowly filling up. If we don’t exfoliate or get monthly treatments, then the pores look bigger, clogged and noticeable. *I always say it’s best to TREAT your breakouts, NOT mess with them. Treating the breakouts will help not leave deep acne scarring. This was exactly a week difference. 7 days of cleansing properly, toner to balance the skin’s pH, serum to feed the skin and help HEAL the skin, moisturizer to create a protective barrier over the skin and an acne treatment to KILL the breakouts. It’s best to TREAT the breakouts/acne. I asked her to NOT pick her skin. To not wear makeup. And look at that! We are Wolverines! Our bodies and skin can heal themselves. We just have to feed it and guide it for quicker results. ... STOP PICKING your skin. A breakout is an injury to the skin. If you don’t let it heal and keep picking at it, it wont heal properly and it will be a vicious cycle by breaking out more. Picking your skin with dirty hands or trapped bacteria under your nails will only spread the bacteria and break out more. Causing more breakouts and more acne scarring. And of course using proper skincare products that will help the skin versus irritating it more. After the breakouts are healed, then we can focus on the acne scarring left behind. Those marks take about 4 months to heal on their own. What’s important here is to not accumulate any new damage AND protecting her skin from the sun. Exposure to sun will make the acne scarring darker and making it difficult to brighten up. Using brightening products at home will help speed up the process of brightening the acne scarring. The sooner we treat it, the sooner it will heal. You can still brighten old acne scarring but it will definitely be stubborn and will take some time. Pores are normal, guys! Most of us have pores It’s completely normal to have visible pores. Keeping them clean will help making them less noticeable. You can see the difference in how his pores look before and after. ... The key is to maintain them clean with monthly professional treatments. If we leave them as is, the debris inside pores will stretch out the pore size. As we age our pores get bigger but maintaining them will help not make them as noticeable. *Clogged pores- Can look enlarged, bumpy, or, in the case of blackheads, dark in color. The more oil that a person's skin produces, the more likely it is that their pores will become blocked. She has Oily skin type. How can you tell? I can tell based on the size of her pores. Her pores are past the normal T-zone, therefore her skin type is oily. She has pores past the T-zone areas. ... It’s important to Cleanse properly (2x a day. Double cleanse at nite) Exfoliate properly (3 times a week) Moisturize (Yes, moisturize. Oily skin needs to be moisturized using the proper product that won’t clog the skin.) Use SPF Use makeup products with non clogging ingredients for less clogged pores Leave the extractions to the professionals. When you do self extractions, it can lead to irreversible damage. Damaging your skin by squeezing or picking can also cause inflammation, hyperpigmentation and scarring. Squeezing additionally introduces bacteria, oil and dirt from your hands into your pores, which can lead to more blackheads and more breakouts. *Just look at what St. Ives scrub was doing to her skin. She has been using the scrub to help her exfoliate but has been actually accumulating damage to her skin So she was using St. Ives Scrub to help her eliminate blackheads, not knowing it’s one of the worst products for your skin. It makes micro tears in the skin, leaving it exposed for bacteria. It strips the skin’s barrier and leaves the skin dehydrated. She felt her skin extremely dry so in her attempt to moisturi...ze her skin, she was using Ponds Ponds is actually heavy and not good for her skin condition. Ponds is oil based. She’s pretty much damaging her skin with the scrub and clogging her pores with ponds. Leading to many blackheads, trapped oil in the pores. #ItsAViciousCycle Some factors that cause congestion: poor or incorrect skincare, insufficient or poor cleansing routine, using comedogenic (clogging) ingredients, makeup products and incorrect Exfoliaton. So I gave her the works and a deep detox. This was a very detailed treatment with lots of skin love before I do some damage control. *I mean... Wow!!!! Her transformation is absolutely amazing!! . I just want to thank everyone for their referrals. She came to referred by a client. She had tried everything. Going to a doctor, dermatologist, etc. I wasn’t sure I would be able to help her but I told her I would try my best. I even took some advanced classes to extend my education in Rosacea. She has two conditions going on here. Her Rosacea flare up and breakouts. So we went over her lifestyle, products she... uses, bad skin habits, eating habits. . She had been using a soap to wash her face. Which is a BIG NO-NO. Soaps are too harsh for the skin. They’re detergents. They dehydrate the skin and strip the skin’s oils (bad and good.) With her rosacea condition- it was causing even more damage to her skin. Inflamed red skin. So I switched her over to Dr. Jeff’s Sensitive Skin Skincare Set.
