ATTENTION FIFTH-GRADE TEACHERS The San Joaquin County Office of Education and the Superior Court of San Joaquin County have collaborated to bring the First Impressions program to your classroom virtually! First Impressions is a FREE PROGRAM that brings the courtroom to the classroom, introducing students to the legal profession while teaching them about the three branches of government, the importance of the separation of powers, important Constitutional rights, and th...e role of judicial independence to fair and impartial courts. Students get to learn how to think critically, how to respectfully engage in deliberations with others to convey their opinions, practice reading, and engage in a variety of exercises to demonstrate what they’ve learned in the program, said Judge Barbara Kronlund. We’ve woven a career day into the remote program as well, she said. This gives students a look at possible careers within the justice system, which might interest them. Download the module worksheets and learn more about the program at http://bit.ly/CivicsEdSJC. Instead of taking the stage in front of hundreds of people packed in a convention center, the opening speakers at CSC2020 Friday morning took turns getting in front of a camera in and office to kick off the annual CodeStack event. The opening remarks from CodeStack Director Johnny Arguelles and SJCOE Associate Superintendent of Student Programs & Services Troy Brown kicked off the day with a live feed from Arguelles' office. The CodeStack team mixed that feed, with other spea...kers from different locations through Zoom to the conference-goers. More than 3,000 registered to attend the event to learn the latest about EDJOIN, BeyondSST, SEIS, and other technological tools developed by the CodeStack team. More info at codestack.org #WeAreSJCOE
