Did you know? One of the all-time greatest pitchers in major league baseball, Dave Righetti, was a student at SJCC in 1977-78. During his first year playing with the New York Yankees he was named Rookie of the Year. Twice an All Star, he played with the San Francisco Giants, Oakland Athletics, Toronto Blue Jays, and Chicago White Sox during his sixteen year career. He is the first player in history to pitch a no hitter and lead the league in saves. From 2000 through 2017 he was the pitching coach for the Giants prior to his retirement. #MLB #CommunityCollege #SJCCBrilliant #SJCC100

#ThrowbackThursday Almost single-handedly in 1958, student Leroy M. Montez brought about the name change from San Jose Junior College to San Jose Community College. Montez embarked on a letter writing campaign and penning newspaper articles stressing that the words ‘junior college’ have an undesirable connotation. On July 1, 1958, San Jose Junior College officially changed its name to San Jose City College, as it is known today. Photo Credit: San Jose Chamber of Commerce Collection.
