Our club donates to Palomar Forensics Lab, the only lab in SD County that provides services to victims of domestic violence, child abuse, and other equally heinous crimes. Many of the women and children who enter this facility have to go through a rigorous examination, interview, and counseling. After they have completed the process, they need new clothes because the clothing they came to the lab in, is now evidence. Each year our club purchases a variety of clothing items..., interview materials, special items for the children and babies. This year we donated underwear, shoes, play-doh, stuffed animals, and a few school supplies. The lab employees greatly appreciate our donations because they depend upon donations and other means to keep their program going. If you would like to assist us with this project and other similar projects, please email us at [email protected] See more

Our club is being active in our community once again by adopting a local family for the holidays, buying gifts and preparing a meal to deliver, as well as supporting families in transitional housing, who have transitioned out of domestic violence situations, with gift cards to purchase Christmas gifts for their children! Thank you to all who support us!

Three years ago, I survived an assault that lasted for 36 hours. After being punched, stomped on, and smothered with a pillow, I regained consciousness to him ...saying something I will never forget: ‘I'm drinking your blood because I know I'm going to prison for this.’ The maid at the motel heard me screaming and called the police. I was hospitalized for 3 days with a fractured skull, broken ribs, fingers, and wrist, missing teeth, and bruises covering my body. I'm just starting to deal with what happened and want to help others. After spending the last 3 years running from my pain - including hospitalization, suicide attempts, homelessness, drugs and alcohol abuse - I'm ready to Break the Silence Against Domestic Violence Sarah, Survivor

Today's #TipsForParticipation comes from one of our Dream It, Be It Region Chairs: Maggie-Mae Gaughan! Maggie-Mae leads Soroptimist International of Greater San...ta Clarita Valley's Dream It, Be It program, which is no small feat, as their largest conference reached 180 girls! One of the special aspects of Greater Santa Clarita Valley's program is that they bring in local women who are young but have endured some of the obstacles that the curriculum addresses. These women serve as mentors, sharing their story with the participants and encouraging them to pursue their goals. We think this quote from a participant really sums up her experience: "The personal stories of my Mentors made me sob and really touched my heart. The fact that they had the bravery to share their own stories makes me feel like I can share my own." Way to go, Maggie-Mae and all of Camino Real Region!
