It is with sadness to bring news of a former member of the Simi Valley Stake, Merril Hardy (father to Memri Wolf (SS3) passing. Merrill Duard Hardy, loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2019 at home in St George, Utah at the age of 89. He was born on August 25, 1929 in Salt Lake City, Utah to William and Afton Hardy. As a child his family lived in Denver CO, Nebraska and Chicago, IL where he had many great adventures.... Merrill loved to play sports and was an extraordinary athlete. In high school he played basketball, baseball, football and was a competitive diver. He was recruited to play baseball semi professionally but his love for Heavenly Father was greater than his desire to play. He served a spanish speaking mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Southern Texas and Mexico. This is where he gained his love and knowledge for speaking Spanish and did so beautifully until the end. Merrill returned to his love of sports in college where he played football at BYU for Lavell Edwards. He went on to earn his Masters degree at BYU and his PhD at the University of Southern California in Kinesiology. Merrill applied his knowledge, discipline, and athletic talents as a beloved Professor at Cal State University Northridge. He loved teaching educators to be better educators and was highly ranked by students and colleagues alike. Merrill was also an avid golfer and singer and sang in several barbershop quartets and church choirs. As a lifelong member of the Church of Latter Day Saints he played on winning teams in the All Church Games, served many church callings including 2 service missions in St. George. Merrill's greatest achievement though was his family whom he loved with all his heart. He was a great father who was very proud of his children and grandchildren. He was a humble man and those who were lucky enough to know him got to see his amazing sense of humour. He will be missed very much. Survived by wife Betty, children David Hardy(Terri), Lois Babcock(Garett), Barbara Duitsman(Stan), Jeff Hardy(Melodie); his stepchildren Ginger Hitz(Steve), Ally Dodi Dawson(Jake), Memri Wolf(Tom), Ben Holder Jr; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; brother Darwin Hardy, and sister Joyce Greenhalgh. Preceded in death by wife Sydney Hardy, daughter Joanne Gunderson, sister Jean Yancey, and his parents. A visitation will be held in St. George, Utah on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd. Graveside services will be held in Mesa, Arizona on Friday, January 18, 2019 at Mariposa Gardens Memorial Park, 400 South Power Road. Our sincere condolences to his family and friends

Christie Bessinger is from the Clovis, CA Stake and performed at our Simi Community Christmas a year ago. She finally has her album out, and its great, I have a couple of copies, or you can write to her direct. $10 only to support this sister. She also owns a recital studio in Fresno and teaches piano to all especially your children, and hosts recitals for them too. she is wonderful in my book.
