Simi Valley Homes

We posted a 1977 ad for Bridle Path homes yesterday....here's a photo from around 1978 showing the construction of the homes. This is looking north and slightl...y west across the valley. The two rows of homes that fork away from each other are Nonchalant and Rambling. I think that's Mellow Ln above Nonchalant and Rambling. First St. is the road that they come off of. First St. is running from the left side of the photo toward the center. The circular tract of homes on the west side of First are Tranquil and Languid Lanes. The campuses of Royal High and Sinaloa Middle School can be seen. See more

Yesterday we posted a 1977 ad for 'The Groves' housing development. Do you know why that development was named The Groves? There are many residents that do! ...That area was the Tapo District, and was all groves, mostly orange. The Tapo Citrus packing house was where City hall is now. Here's a great photo of 'The Tapo' from the Volz family, taken in October 1961, looking west. The field in the foreground is where the Kohls shopping center is now. The street running up from the bottom left corner towards the center of the photo is Alamo, and the Tapo Citrus packing house is the large white structure in the center. The curved railroad spur can be seen curving off of what is now Tapo Canyon to behind the packing house. The street running from the bottom right corner to the center of the photo is Avenida Simi. The land between Alamo and Avenida Simi will become the City's civic center, Rancho Tapo Park and developments, including 'The Groves.' See more

This photo is a companion to the last one posted...looking the other way (west) on Los Angeles ave. c1946. The gas station on the left was located onb LA Ave a...nd Third st. That's the Bañaga barbershop just past the bicyclist in the street. The building just on the other side of the barbershop was the post office.
