Silicon Valley Clean Water 02.11.2020

Today is Imagine a Day Without Water, and we encourage everyone to take part. This national education campaign invites community members and organizations to highlight how water is one of our most precious resources, and that we must invest in protecting it for our survival. We have continued working safely throughout the pandemic to treat our region's wastewater. The SVCW facility enables wastewater to be recycled using state-of-the-art biological treatment. Clean water is a...vailable for reuse and the fragile ecosystem of the San Francisco Bay is protected for current and future generations to enjoy. On this final day of #ConstructionSafetyWeek, we celebrate and thank all the our work construction crews do every day to stay safe. The safety strides and efforts of all our staff, contractor partners and crews enabled us to continue operating despite COVID. Today marks 608 days without a loss time accident! Safety is always a top priority and we are proud of the construction workers on our sites. We practice safety measures prescribed by the #CDC to keep ourselves safe, so we can continue to operate the SVCW wastewater treatment plant and RESCU construction projects upgrading the conveyance system to keep San Francisco Bay healthy. #ThankYouConstructionWorkers

On this second day of #ConstructionSafetyWeek, we want to identify two program fundamentals that help to keep us safe. First, big thanks go out to our Safety Committee and the work they continue to do to keep us safe. The Safety Committee comprises of SVCW staff who perform safety workplace inspections to identify and rectify hazards to help prevent injuries and illnesses. In addition, our contractor-partner, Shea-Parsons Joint Venture, successfully uses a system of brassing in and out of the Front of Plant project shafts. This safety measure allows crews to track where personnel are located, and who enters/exits the shafts. We work closely with our contractor partners as they implement their construction safety plans for all RESCU construction projects. Front of Plant project: www.svcw-rescu.org/front-of-plant

Today marks the start of Construction Safety Week! We at SVCW hold ourselves accountable to high safety standards, Always. This year’s #ConstructionSafetyWeek theme is Built on Safety. We continue to put safety as a top priority always, and our staff, contractor partners, and construction crews all take their own safety and the safety of everyone on site to heart. We prioritize safety because our families at home and at work depend on it. Follow along with us this week to learn more about how SVCW and the RESCU program are #BuiltOnSafety.

Today marks the centennial ratification of the #19thAmendment giving women the right to vote. After nearly 100 years of fighting for equal rights, activists, reformers and women won - declaring that women, like men, deserve the rights to and responsibilities of citizenship. Though women were given equal rights under the Constitution, the fight for equality for all women has continued long after. We thank those who tirelessly fought and continue the fight today. #WomensSuffrage #Centennial

Exciting news! SVCW reached a major milestone for expanding its energy resiliency and efficiency program by implementing energy storage onsite using Tesla batteries. After years of work, PG&E approved SVCW to export energy generated at the wastewater treatment plant back into the power grid. On July 22, 2020, SVCW successfully completed the removal of programming that prevented power from being exported, conducted a full power discharge of the Tesla battery system, and energ...ized the batteries all without losing any power at the plant. Salus, the Tunnel Boring Machine, successfully launched for her second drive towards the SVCW treatment plant last week! After a successful first drive, Salus' second journey will cross twice the distance of the first. Based on monitoring and data derived from the first drive, you won’t be able to tell that she is hard at work beneath the surface on her 2.5 mile voyage from the launch shaft (pictured) at Holly Street and Shoreway Road towards the Front of Plant at SVCW’s wastewater treatment site.
