We’ve been busy! In preparation for the holiday season we’ve been remastering our displays to provide our customers with ample options. Over the upcoming weeks you’ll get sneak peaks of these displays in all of their glory. The display that I personally wanted to tackle was that of the Conquest of America. Having absolutely no idea how to work these figures into a display, I did some research and took a chance. Here’s only a small section of this colorful diorama. ... How’s your day going? Hopefully better than this Spartan’s! As we begin to rebuild our displays in preparation for the upcoming holiday season, we thought it would be appropriate to revamp the ancients displays and provide you all with updates along the way. Here you see John Jenkins Designs Spartan Army pitted against the same maker’s Persian cavalry, reflective of the Peloponnesian War (431-404 BC). ... Note the lack of traditional greaves, cuirass, and closed Corinthian helmet on the Greek soldier. Instead, Spartans wore the open-faced Pilos Helmet, a crimson short sleeved tunic called the exomis, which was left unpinned on the right shoulder to allow it to be free for action. These choices were typical of the region in Greece, called Lakedaimon, at the time. In addition, Lakedaimonian soldiers grew out their hair and beard when on campaign, another style that had fallen out of fashion elsewhere in Greece at this time. Join your CTSS friends at the CHICAGO TOY SOLDIER virtual SHOW on September 26-27, 2020! Normally at this time of the year we are in Chicago, setting up Toy Soldiers for The Chicago Toy Soldier Show, drinking beer and eating Pizza. Sadly because of the Covid Mess it was cancelled.
