On January 15, 1968 one of the most revered and influential Capricorns turned 39... 3 months later, he would be shot dead. Three short years earlier, another st...alwart leader of the Civil Rights Movement also 39-years-old met with the same fate. Now historically, children in this country are spoon-fed an antiseptic version of history with respect to the differences between these two leaders; one being the peace-loving accessible Black man, and the other being the radical Black man who hated white people. Non-violence becomes distilled into some turn the other cheek rhetoric because it makes the former more palatable for white people. Be more like MLK, they’ll shout, while their metaphoric foot is on your neck. Love your neighbor, they’ll scream, while their neighbors plot to incite, embolden, and commit acts of violence. Each and every MLK day but especially this one I implore you to do more than just love your neighbor and post cherry picked quotes. Instead, really look at the perils of capitalism and how its effects are actively ruining lives, and how a pandemic highlights just how severe income inequity is. Live the Dream... but remember that the early leaders of this movement were all assassinated before turning 40 either directly by our government or by those acting in accordance with the prevailing narrative of the time all for believing in the notion of Black liberation and equality. They paid with their lives. And for this, we must honor them by staying the course and not giving up. The world will not magically go back to normal on January 20th... we must not either.

White people: we don’t deserve Stacey Abrams. She’s saved us from ourselves and know this... the 55% is the reason Black women don’t trust us. Yes us. You’re no...t one of the good ones. You’re part of a system complicit in its OWN oppression, whose ongoing complicity affords powerful men the opportunity to simultaneously trample on the freedom of others, while giving you a false sense of proximate power. Now, I have been asked why I’m so hard on white women when other demographics can be just as abusive and oppressive. There is a lot to unpack here (which I will at a later date), but I’ll start with this: We birth the white men who carry out such atrocities. We caretake the perpetrators of violence. We are a soft landing for those who’ve done wrong and we make excuses for bad behavior. We’re the fuel that keeps the engine of oppression thriving. White women are the proud mothers of white supremacy. This is why I tend to not give credit for just showing up. And I’m side eyeing *any* leader who tries to open the proverbial tent to utterly useless white people doing the absolute least. Like, no Regina. You can’t sit with us. If you haven’t experienced the pain of isolation that comes when friends exclude you for running your mouth about how terrible a down-ballot candidate would be for minorities and underserved folks, you may approach the table. If you’ve ripped your family members to shreds in public, private, or on the internet, and have experienced the gut-punch that accompanies this type of loss, you may pull up a chair. And if you are truly ready to be ignored, hated, blamed, made to feel uncomfortable, and receive exactly zero acknowledgment for doing the least by just showing up, being ready to listen and follow instructions, you may cautiously sit. But don’t expect a high five and a smile. You’re here to do work. Not to be lauded for your allyship. Now, we have two critical senate races in Georgia that are heading for a runoff. We have until December 7th to get eligible unregistered Georgians registered to vote. We must be prepared to clamber on, as this will undoubtedly be messy. So, Georgia... we’re ready. And thank you, Stacey Abrams
