Here's a test to see how fast you can untie your shoes. You can use both hands, but you can't use your thumbs. Gonot so easy, is it? Did you know that 25% of all disabling injuries involve hands and fingers? The most common causes of hand and finger injuries are preventable. They include struck by hammers, pinched between objects, cut by sharp objects, pierced by splinters and slivers, burned by hot objects or chemicals, and caught in moving machinery. Gloves are the best fo...rm of protection. Wear gloves when handling rough or sharp materials. Use rubber gloves when working with concrete, chemicals, solvents, or other materials that can irritate your skin. Here are three tips: Make smart decisions and ensure personal protective equipment fits and is right for the job. Protect your hands and arms from burns and splinters while grinding, cutting, welding, or sawing. Never place any part of your body in a pinch point or reach into energized equipment. #MakingSafetyHappen #safetytips #safety #shimmick #30years #civilconstruction #toolboxtalks

Happy Halloween!! Did you forget too? Me too. Enjoy your time safely with family and friends. Be reminded of what our core safety value states we protect life by ensuring our work is performed safely and through a longstanding commitment to achieving zero accidents and zero injuries in everything we do. Although we may not be building anything this Halloween evening per se, whether it’s trick-or-treating, a fall festival, or a haunted corn maze protect the lives around you by being vigilant of your surroundings (it’s getting darker earlier).

Sprains and strains account for about 30% of the injuries on a job site. These injuries occur often and are painful, disabling, and often accompanied by lengthy recovery periods. To minimize sprains: Avoid strenuous activities. Wear proper footwear that fit correctly. Use extra caution on slippery or uneven surfaces. Look where you are placing your feet when stepping off ladders.... To minimize strains, do the following things: Arrange your work areas to minimize the heavy lifting. Perform stretching exercising before lifting heavy items. Plan the lift considering the object’s weight, distance to be moved, and route. Move heavy objects by pushing or pulling. Use your legs to lift slowly and smoothly and carry objects close to your body. Turn the whole body as one unit when changing direction. Follow these helpful rules, and you will reduce the chance of sprain or strain. It won't hurt if you ask for help, but it can if you don’t. #MakingSafetyHappen #safetytips #safety #shimmick #civilconstruction #toolboxtalks
