Shelter Cove Fire Department 16.12.2020

Last week Shelter Cove Fire responded to a vehicle fire with possible spread the vegetation. Due to a fast response by our new quick attack fire engine, and our... Duty Officer for the day Engineer Jac Hargrave the fire was contained to the burning truck with minimal spread to the vegetation or trailer. Many people do not know that Shelter Cove Fire staffs this new fire engine with a highly trained Fire Officer/EMT 24hrs a day 7 days a week. This staffing allows us to respond to fire, rescue, and EMS emergencies quickly and efficiently. A big thanks to Cal Fire for the support and the RID #1 and Humboldt County for the recent fuels reduction project along Shelter Cove Rd. which also helped to slow the spread of the fire into the trees. This is also a good reminder to always carry a fire extinguisher and know how to use it!!! Be Safe. SCFD

Shelter Cove Fire and the SC CERT team will be supporting the annual BBQ, parade, and safe and sane area but do to COVID-19 things will be a little different t...his year. The BBQ at the community center will be a drive through and take out only and all volunteers will be taking full COVID-19 precautions. We ask that everyone watching the parade keep at least 6 feet from others and wear a mask when necessary. The same rules apply to the Safe and Sane family area in the field north of the club house. All community members and visitors can use the field for safe and sane fireworks only as an alternative to the boat ramp. Any illegal or unsafe firework use will be reported to the Sheriff and Cal Fire Prevention which could lead to a citation and or confiscation. Let’s have another safe fourth of July in Shelter Cove! Please call 911 for any emergencies or fires! Be safe, SCFD

Due to local fire danger and the anticipated rise in tourism for the 4th of July holiday, the Shelter Cove Fire Department is asking for the communities’ cooperation as we continue to keep Shelter Cove safe from fires and the on going threat of COVID-19. As we move into the holiday weekend please continue to wear your mask and practice physical distancing. Even though safe and sane fireworks are permitted for use in Humboldt county Shelter Cove Fire is asking that people only... use the main cove beach or the safe and sane family area which will be located in the club house parking lot. Firewoks of any kind are not allowed on any BLM land. Any use of illegal fireworks will be reported to the Humboldt County Sheriff and Cal Fire Prevention but the SCFD does not have the authority to confiscate or cite for any illegal fireworks or devices. This is also the last week to prepare your home for wildfires. At a minimum you should cut any tall grass and clean debris away from your home and out of the gutters. With your help we can continue our streak of safe 4th of July celebrations here in Shelter Cove. Be Safe, SCFD

Shelter Cove Fire Rescue, Shelter Cove CERT, and the RID#1 would like to remind and invite you to participate in our Shelter Cove Emergency Notification System ...test on Tuesday March 24th at 10 am from the safety of your own home. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic we have cancelled our "Tsunami Week" walk, but we will still be activating our new tsunami and wildfire sirens as part of a normally scheduled maintenance test. Community members can still participate though, All you have to do is call the fire station or post on our face book pages and let us know if you heard the sirens and what part of Shelter Cove you live in. This is an exciting time as we are the only rural community that’s has both a state of the art tsunami and wildfire siren system that can notify its entire community of the need to evacuate. If this was not a test and you hear the sires, please evacuate to the fire station for a tsunami or the community center for a wildfire where the SC CERT team will be setting up our emergency shelters. Be Safe! SCFD
