While Summer is over, The Shelter Cove Arts and Recreation Foundation (SCARF) continues to be busy with many projects. Here are a few that might interest you: 1. SCARF Board members are having preliminary meetings with the Bureau of Land Management discussing whether we can do another Artist in Residence joint program. Both organizations would like to continue the popular events in compliance with Covid mandates. Exactly what that looks like is yet to be determined and ...approved by BLM & SCARF leadership. 2. Local resident, Kevin Kelly, has voluntarily created a flyer with information and pictures about local animals, birds, reptiles etc. Working with SCARF, Kevin is doing final edits on the flyers, which will eventually be available on the nature trails alongside the SCARF Plant Identification Flyers. SCARF thanks Kevin for all his work and we know it will be very appreciated by the community. Additionally, SCARF and Kevin are working on a contest for local youth interested in local wildlife. Watch for future notices. 3. In partnership with Friends of the Lost Coast and the Resort Improvement District, weather, wildfires and smoke permitting, the new plant identification signs and signposts will begin installation next week on the original nature trail and the Bill Franklin trail. We thank the business community, non-profit organizations, and individual donors who sponsored the plant signs. 4. SCARF and the Lost Coast Artist's Group are super excited to announce that our first piece of art was sold on our new virtual art gallery website! This caps off a great month of sales and we congratulate all of our artists for the creative work they are doing. You can visit the Gallery every day from 11 am to 4 pm located at the Inn of the Lost Coast, 205 Wave. You can access the online Gallery at LostCoastArtist.com. Of course, thanks to Amy and Sharon, our two Gallery Directors, who make all this happen! 5. The Lost Coast Artist Group meets every Thursday morning to create art at different locations around the Cove. Everyone is welcome to join at no cost. For more information, contact Mary Neufeld, SCARF's group leader at [email protected]. 6. A new bench will soon be installed on the Nature Trail courtesy of one of our fine residents. Always great to have another place to sit and enjoy watching nature. We will keep you informed when and who the generous donor is in a future notice. 7. Finally, plans are underway to refurbish and refresh the wood on the existing 6 SCARF benches along our nature and fitness trails. If you can donate some time to help, we would love to hear from you. Questions, suggestions or to learn how you can become more involved, please contact us [email protected] Your SCARF Board Mark Mitchell Effie Boudreaux Sue Taylor Nancy Mitchell Karin Dunphy Denise Reid Jeremiah Jackson

SCARF Board of Director Changes The Shelter Cove Arts and Recreation Foundation (SCARF) would like to announce some recent changes to its Board of Directors. Vice President Jim Blewett has recently stepped down from the SCARF Board after many years of service. He will be greatly missed and we wish him all the best. Thank you Jim for all of your years of help and guidance.... SCARF is pleased to announce the board seat vacated by Jim, has been filled by Jerry Jackson. The Board welcomes him to our Board. Jerry has been a major supporter of SCARF in the past and lives here in the Cove, with his wife Nina. We look forward to working with Jerry, and thank him for joining the Board. Finally, SCARF is pleased to announce that Board Director, Effie Boudreaux, was voted by the Board to the position of Vice President. Effie has been a major asset to SCARF since joining the Board. She was one of the leads in the 3 Artist in Residence programs with BLM last year among others. She will continue to work on SCARF projects while also taking on the duties of Vice President. Thank you Effie. Your SCARF Board looks forward to bringing more arts and recreation activities to the Cove. Be Safe. Mark Mitchell- President of the Board.

First Day of Peruvian Textile Exhibit a huge success! A full house attended the presentation made by Joe Collins today as he showed pictures of his time in Peru with the Peace Corps and the people he worked with. In addition, Joe talked about the clothing the local people made and wore. Many of those items were on display for the audience to ask questions about and even touch. The Exhibit continues on Saturday the 29th and Sunday the 30th. There may be a last minute sea...t available. Only 10 attendees are permitted due to Covid concerns and all attendees to the presentation or just visitors to see the exhibition are required to wear masks, have their temperature taken, and must keep social distancing in mind. If you would like to attend the lecture you must contact [email protected] to see if any seats are still available. Space is limited to only ten attendees. The Shelter Cove Arts and Recreation Foundation (SCARF) and the Lost Coast Artists thank Joe Collins for developing and presenting this unique and informative presentation and exhibition. This event is happening at the Shelter Cove Art Gallery, 205 Wave in Shelter Cove.
