AN UPDATE ON REV. THICH NHAT HANH'S HEALTH "Dear Friends, Earlier I posted a note from two Brothers on their way to be with Thay in Vietnam asking for our praye...rs...I later received these updates one with information from Thay's niece and another from another senior monk, who thinks Thay might live longer than we will! I hope that is true. It seems that Thay has been taking some food and drinking....Whatever his condition, we hold Thay in our prayers always and will keep sending them along with our love. "There were some posts and emails circulating earlier today around Thay's condition, with some implications that may not have been exactly correct. I want to let you know the best information that is available to me on our dear respected Teacher. Mitchell Ratner talked this morning, October 5th, with Anh Huong Nguyen, Thay’s niece, who regularly talks with people who are with Thay at Tu Hieu Temple in Vietnam. She confirmed that Thay had stopped eating, and also noted that Thay had more recently had begun eating again. Over the past years there have been many times when Thay has stopped eating for several days, then begun again. Thay’s niece also affirmed that Chân Pháp Hu, Abbot of Plum Village - France, and Chân Pháp n, Abbot of the European Institute of Applied Buddhism, have traveled to Vietnam. However, the trip had been planned for a while and the purpose is to confer with other senior monastics about ceremonies and other issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic. " and from Thay Phap Dang "Calm and smile. His will to live is so strong and powerful. I think he will be okay. He didn’t eat but he drinks. He may live longer than us." May it be so!

But when doing so, what do we really mean by being in the moment, or being, or even, the moment?... Further, why would that be helpful or important? Why would it be helpful to spend some daily time on cultivating momentariness in meditation, considering that there are seemingly so many other important things to do and to take care of? In his talk, Lodrö Sangpo will discuss why, in general, momentariness is one of the fundamental principles of Buddhist meditation and philosophy and outlook on life. He will do this by specifically focusing on Trungpa Rinpoche's original meditation instruction on shamatha-vipashyana (or mindfulness-awareness) which forms a solid basis for all the so-called later practices. White Fragility Book Study Class | 8 Thursday evenings July 9th through August 27th from 7 to 8:30 PM Pacific time. A book study class on Robin DiAngelo's book White Fragility. This book provides a direct and clear examination of the system of white supremacy, how it operates and how it hurts us, individually and collectively. It describes how we participate unknowingly in perpetuating it. With directness and compassion, DiAngelo allows us to understand racism as a practice ...not restricted to ‘bad people'. Within the view of basic goodness, we will share our vulnerability and open up to what makes it difficult to talk about racism. This book will explore the path for white people who truly endeavor to be a part of the solution. This 8-week class will be held online on the Zoom platform.
