This past weekend, we took part in ULI’s Young Leaders Group’s Creators of Community Case Study Tour featuring local pioneer architects #TedSmith and #JonathanSegal. We learned about their mutual ‘#LittleItaly Neighborhood Developers’ LIND Block project from 1995 that helped shape #SanDiego’s city growth. Smith and Segal also elaborated on their experience as architect-developers and how it has helped them foster #communities. @ulisandiegotijuana

SGPA has been working on Kearny High School’s campus for over a decade, designing and building a wide range of projects including small #CTE projects and large-scale Whole Site Modernizations. In our latest blog "Design Trends for the K-12 Campus", we showcase #designsolutions that both enrich the student's learning experience and enhance emerging community public health guidelines. Click the #LinkinBio to read more about how we can transform the modern K-12 campus! #sgpaEducation

In honor of Native American Day, we are featuring the Seven Directions Health Center which is sponsored by the Native American Health Center (@7gen1d). We collaborated with @PyatokArchitects to integrate affordable #familyhousing with full-service, community-based medical care. We designed a Federally Qualified Health Center that provides #outpatient primary care, #mentalhealth, dental health, and nutrition counseling for the local Native American community. The clinic’s interior and exterior design embrace traditional Native American #culture and #art, while the outdoor spaces are designed to accommodate Native American healing ceremonies. Happy #NativeAmericanDay!

The first objective of our Quetzal Gardens project was to enhance connections to the community. After working with the client and local residents, we understood their desire to emphasize the multicultural history of the neighborhood. A corner gathering space was designed to showcase public art from local artists. We also incorporated colors, forms, and material patterns that compliment the nearby Mexican Heritage Plaza tower. The large ground floor tenant spaces were designed to feature local entrepreneurs, shops and community service providers. Quetzal Gardens also has a new Bus Rapid Transit Stop, connecting this affordable family housing building directly to downtown San Jose and the rest of the Bay Area!

Last night, SGPA sponsored and attended The Covenant at Mount Miguel's Live with Promise fundraising celebration - in person! The theme was "Starry Starry Night in Paris" and was held on their patio space by Lake George. Guests practiced social distancing while strolling along the campus, listening to live music, and interacting with painters and a mime.

For our Quetzal Gardens project, we worked with the client and community to identify four objectives we wanted to integrate into the design of the project: enhance connections to the #community, provide access to the #outdoors, create quality #housing, and conserve resources. #StayTuned for future posts that highlight each goal!

750 West San Carlos will bring 80 units of 100% #AffordableHousing to #SanJose! There are 2 main reasons this dense housing project was approved for such a small site: 1) The city upzoned the entire Diridon Station neighborhood to less restrictive building height limits. Outdated zoning laws are a huge roadblock in many cities to address the current #HousingCrisis. #Rezoning is a great strategy to allow for a denser housing variety that meets increasing demands! 2) SGPA al...so received a #StateDensityBonus, which awards higher density design in exchange for extra affordable units. We were awarded reduced setbacks from property lines, which helped efficiently provide more affordable units at each level of the building. This project also received #StreamlinedApproval, which reduces costs and makes affordable housing available more quickly and efficiently. At SGPA, we advocate for quality housing design, and want to promote all tools available to ensure we help California close the housing deficit!

The SGPA-designed Whole Foods (@wholefoods) & AMC Theater (@amctheatres) building is almost complete and waiting to open! This marks another important and long-awaited phase in the #transformation of Downtown #Sunnyvale. It will act as the key anchor for the expansion of downtown into a lively new #mixeduse retail, food and entertainment district. Large corner outdoor dining terraces were designed to spill out of the building on two floors to enliven the street and overlook the future #RedwoodSquare. Check out our earlier posts to see a before rendering. The nearly finished result looks even better! Thank you @bernardopictures for sharing. #citylinesunnyvale #siliconvalley #entertainmentdistrict #outdoordining #masterplan #sgpaResidentialMixedUse
