Independently run and operated in North Hollywood since 1987, The Iliad bookshop is one of the last of its kind in the San Fernando Valley. Please help them restore their amazing mural that was recently vandalized.

Corky's (originally called Stanley Burke’s) in Sherman Oaks is a San Fernando Valley institution! On August 20th, L.A.'s Cultural Heritage Commission voted to recommend the listing of this historic 1958 Armet & Davis Googie diner a Historic-Cultural Monument. Stay tuned for more updates!

Dear Family, Community, and Friends: We, the Fernandeño Tataviam Band of Mission Indians, are excited to share an update on our response to the Office of Federa...l Acknowledgment’s (OFA) Proposed Finding on our petition for acknowledgment. As we shared earlier, the Proposed Finding of May 27, 2020 established that we satisfied three of four criteria in Phase I of a two-phased process. In this finding, we learned that our Tribe upheld a different understanding of how the historical Indian tribe would be defined under the regulations. We have since been working on correcting this technicality to satisfy Criterion (e). Our Tribe descends from the historical Indian tribe that endured and emerged from the San Fernando Mission experience. The Tribe can account for individual Fernandeño tribal members as of 1845 when the Mission records cease, and through every Federal Census of the 19th century. Current tribal members all descend from the people of that historical Indian tribe showing that the Tribe satisfies Criterion (e). In light of the alignment of the OFA’s and Tribe’s understanding of the historic Indian tribe from which the Fernandeño Tataviam Band of Mission Indians descends, we are seeking OFA’s reconsideration of its Proposed Finding to find that Criterion (e) is satisfied. We will keep our community updated as we move through this complex process.

We are saddened to share the passing of a true Los Angeles icon and a genuinely amazing person. He loved the carousel, and we loved his smile. He will be truly missed. Rest easy Julio.
