At last night's forum, we heard real passion from Bay Area transit leaders about why transit is important, what it should look like, and what is standing in our way. HINT: IT'S FUNDING. We also heard that "culture eats policy for breakfast" - we need to build our strength as advocates, to shift the culture to support and celebrate transit! Our forum was part of a national #TransitIsTheFuture effort by transit advocates in cities across the country to call on Congress for the... $32B we need to #SaveTransit. We need to prevent layoffs, we need to protect our essential workers, and we need to maintain transit service. Together, we can shift the culture and save transit. transitjustice.org

With BART ridership at 12% of pre-COVID levels, the agency faces tough decisions and strong, thoughtful leadership is more important than ever. We had a blast with our Rider First Awards, hope you did too! This Transit Week we got a unanimous resolution passed by the Board of Supervisors supporting a strong recovery for public transit (thank you, @RafiForD8!). We brought together over 50 neighborhood, merchant, and advocacy groups from across the city to support our transit recovery plan.... And we got to come together, however digitally, to celebrate some transit heroes, and our 10 years of transit advocacy. Thank you to all our sponsors for your engagement and partnership: Salesforce, Google, IBEW Local 6, Spare the Air, Bay Area, Jacobs Engineering Group Inc., San Francisco County Transportation Authority, Spin, and Swiftly. We have our work cut out for us to make sure transit survives this crisis, and comes back better than ever. But we can do it, together. Join us! sftransitriders.org/transitweek #TransitIsEssential

Caltrain is a critical part of our transportation network, but the pandemic is jeopardizing its survival. Vote Yes On Measure RR Measure RR will rescue Caltrain, so that the thousands of nurses, grocery store workers, and other essential workers can get where they are needed most. We're pleased to announce our team is growing, and thrilled to introduce our new Executive Director, Mark Cordes (pronounced CORD-ez)! As a Sunset resident, Mark is a rider of the N, 7, and 28 lines. Before joining our team, Mark worked around the Bay Area as a minister with churches trying to adapt to our evolving communities. Not a stranger to tough campaigns or the complexities of Bay Area politics, housing, and transit policies, he spent most of the last nine years leading the Trinity Berkeley Infill Development Program working to negotiate a deal with parishioners and a developer to build a mixed-use project on the church’s property. Learn more about the experience Mark brings and his vision for SF Transit Riders here: https://sf.streetsblog.org//san-francisco-transit-riders-/
