Meet bonded trio Marimba, Timbale, and Bongo! They are three-year-old siblings (yes siblings!) in need of a new home. They were found nursing with their meowma in a hollowed tree in their previous owner's front yard. Just like siblings, all three have different personalities. Marimba is the the most outgoing of the trio. She'll be the first to greet you and ask for pets and play. Timbale may not initially say "Hi", but after seeing his sister warm up, he'll soon be roll...ing around your feet asking for more. Bongo is the most shy of the siblings and he takes comfort snuggling in with them. With time and patience, we think he'll follow in his brother and sister's paw prints and learn to enjoy affection from people. Together, they like to play with a wand toy, eat treats, and cuddle each other. It's not everyday that three adult siblings stroll into our shelter. You could be the lucky adopter of a built in family to add to yours. We're confident they'll bring beautiful rhythm to the music of your life. Happy New Year! Enjoy this wonderful #SFSPCAalumni update to kick off your 2021! "It's been nearly 8 months since Layla trotted into our lives, and we're all the better for it! Layla looks and feels like a completely different dog now. She was a scared, under-confident, stressed-out little pup who would bark and lunge at everything back then, and now she struts around the neighborhood like a born-and-bred city girl. Neither garbage trucks nor ambulances faze Layla when she's ...out on her walk. Pigeons, however, are a different story. She loves to play with other dogs, and it's hard to convince her to leave the dog park or the daycare. Layla's easily the fastest dog in our neighborhood dog park, and her ears get complimented every day. She loves car rides, and loves to dig and run around at the beach. Now if only she'd tolerate getting bathed a little more. Layla is a super-smart dog, and that combined with her high energy keeps us on our toes. She's already mastered the basic obedience commands, and has solved some of her doggie puzzles faster than it took me to set them up. She grows more and more comfortable every day, and it appears she has finally claimed our house as her home/queendom. While it took time for her to settle, we can finally see Layla's incredibly sweet, fun-loving, trusting personality shine through. I wanted to express my gratitude to you for bringing this crazy monkey into our lives." - Layla's Family We're so happy for you Layla! You can follow her adventures @littlelaylabigworld on Instagram. #HappyTails

Earlier this week a Vacaville police officer was filmed pinning down and punching his K-9 partner. The video created a public outcry, and the K-9 has now been placed in the care of a third party handler. Physically threatening or harming an animal is never acceptable regardless of the animal’s behavior. Leading veterinary behaviorist Jeannine Berger, DVM, DACVB, DACAW, CAWA says It’s a misguided belief that dogs need to be dominated to be trained. The idea that a person mus...t assume the ‘alpha’ position, pervades our society and has significantly damaged the welfare of our canine companions and put many handlers at risk for serious injuries. This popular belief is causing serious harm to pets and working dogs alike. It hurts our relationship with our dogs and causes more problems than it solves being aggressive toward your dog will often cause your dog to become more fearful, anxious and potentially aggressive. Dominance theory has been debunked by the scientific community for many years and replaced with learning theory. It is well established that dogs respond better and learn more quickly with positive reinforcement, which rewards a dog for desired behaviors. Any dog can be trained through positive reinforcement; in fact, this is how many working and military dogs are successfully trained. Miso and Jojo are 8-year-old friends who are looking for a new home! A typical day includes lounging, walking around the house, sleeping, eating, and more lounging, as seen here. They both enjoy a special treat of canned food, although it'd be hard not to spoil them every day! They are an affectionate, good-natured pair who need a home to shower with them with all the love and attention they deserve. Miso and Jojo are part of our Community Rehoming program, which con...nects people who need to re-home their pets with potential adopters, preventing animals from ever entering the shelter. Aloo is living his dream life! You may remember seeing this cutie, named Sly at the time. His funny shape and bouncy personality captured hearts at the shelter, and within a few days of his arrival, he captured the hearts of his new family. "Aloo is the sweetest, but most mischievous potato there is. He loves to play fetch, get belly rubs, and eat his parents furniture (mmm coffee table!!). His puppy playfulness is the most infectious thing I’ve ever seen. He’s the perfect addition to our little family and we can’t imagine life without our Aloo." #HappyTails #SFSPCAalumni

Need a new buddy while you're at home? Meet Nalah, a 1-year-old, Husky gal! She's a lively girl who loves to play and be active. She's very smart and is potty trained in her current home. She likes to learn and will do great with an experienced owner who can continue teaching her everything she needs to know. Nalah likes meeting new people and gets along well with other dogs. What's not to love?? Her subtle head tilt is just begging to ask, "Have I convinced you I'm a goo...d girl yet?" Nalah is part of our Community Rehoming program, which connects people who need to re-home their pets with potential adopters, preventing animals from ever entering the shelter. Our first wildfire evacuee has been adopted! Cooper was the first fire related animal that was transferred to our shelter. When the devastating Creek Fire near Fresno, CA burned Cooper's family's house down, his family made the heartbreaking decision to re-home their family pet. Although Cooper's life had drastically changed, he was a sweetheart through and through. Being in a new city and surrounded by new faces in an unfamiliar place, it would have been easy to understand... if Cooper was weary or scared. However, he was remarkably resilient and simply looked for attention and affection from everyone he met. He was mellow, loved people, and liked other dogs - he was perfect! We were all keeping our fingers crossed that his stay would be a short one. "Short" was an understatement to say the least. After only two days, Cooper found a new family to call his own! A young couple found out just how perfect he was and just like that, his turbulent journey had ended. Now Cooper is living the good life and we're sure he's still perfect. Since the start of this year's fire season, we have been on standby to take in injured animals and displaced animals like Cooper. Thankfully, we have not had to treat any injured animals, but we have taken in many animals to relieve overcrowded shelters near fire areas. Unfortunately, not all of them have as short a stay as Cooper. We are committed to finding every animal a home no matter what, but this wildfire season is putting us through the wringer. We don't know how long it will continue so please consider making a donation today. Know that your contribution truly gives animals like Cooper a new beginning. #MakeADogsDay #HappyTails

"Pleased to meet you, my name is Valient and I'm looking for a new home! I'm a cute, gray colored boy with the fuzziest ears in town. I'm pretty independent and will let you be the same. Once I'm comfortable, I'll rub myself up against your legs to show my love. A little means a lot to me, so I hope you understand that head butts and leg rubs are my way of giving you a big, bear hug! I also enjoy face scratches, playing with my wand toy, and eating my favorite snack in th...e whole world, Temptation treats! Now that's some good snacking! If you're looking for a low-maintenance buddy to hang out with while you do your thing, I'm the guy you've been looking for!" - Valient Check out his profile here: https://bit.ly/2TbUgoX #AdoptDontShop

#SFSPCAalumni Finnick was adopted earlier this year and his family thinks he's the best dog that has ever lived! They tell us he loves life by the beach and enjoys getting belly rubs from his family. He likes his neighborhood so far, but there are a few cats that he's not fond of. His family doesn't blame him. We're so happy for you, Finnick! No need to bother with cats when you have a lap to snuggle into. #HappyTails
