The San Francisco Symphony Musicians are mourning the unexpected passing of Ann Getty. Ann and her husband Gordon Getty have been our ardent and generous supporters for many decades. We send our condolences to her husband Gordon Getty and their three sons and many grandchildren. We are holding them in our thoughts and prayers.

Happy 40th to our home, Davies Symphony Hall! We miss it so much and hope to be back as soon as we are allowed! And of course we miss our audiences even more. Until we meet again.......

In case you missed the #mtt25 tribute on Sunday, here is our virtual version of the end of Mahler’s Symphony No. 1. It was an incredibly bittersweet moment for all of us watching, and we hope you enjoy it.

Today marks the end of an era, a generation of music-making which has touched every individual who has walked into our creative space. There are no words to describe the incredible journey we have shared with Michael Tilson Thomas, and his legacy will resound throughout the walls of Davies Symphony Hall for years to come. This season may be the end of his tenure as Music Director of the San Francisco Symphony, but we look forward to many more beautiful moments with him on... the podium. Until then, we want to express our gratitude and admiration for his dedication and love for music and storytelling. Thank you Michael for your artistic vision. The entire San Francisco Symphony family is deeply saddened to have cancelled not only the farewell celebration for MTT and his inspirational 25 year tenure with us but also the welcoming of our new music director, Esa Pekka Salonen this fall. We desperately miss performing for our incredible audiences and look forward to the day when we are able to do what we love to do, play interesting, challenging, inspirational and uplifting music for our community.
