Reposting this awesome video by the talented Dan Smith, our Associate Principal Double Bass. One of the beautiful things that has come from this new reality of COVID-19 and the closing of many restaurants, shops, and even concert halls, is the prolific art seen on boarded buildings throughout our city. Thank you to all the artists who selflessly contributed their art to the people of San Francisco, and specifically Hayes Valley, during this new COVID-19 world. I hope th...is video inspires others to support and collaborate with local artists in their area and share the beautiful things that can come out of difficult circumstances. Today marks the end of an era, a generation of music-making which has touched every individual who has walked into our creative space. There are no words to describe the incredible journey we have shared with Michael Tilson Thomas, and his legacy will resound throughout the walls of Davies Symphony Hall for years to come. This season may be the end of his tenure as Music Director of the San Francisco Symphony, but we look forward to many more beautiful moments with him on... the podium. Until then, we want to express our gratitude and admiration for his dedication and love for music and storytelling. Thank you Michael for your artistic vision. Thank you for your generosity of spirit. And thank you for your humanity. See more

We are so touched by this video from our wonderful colleagues the MET Orchestra Musicians. We hope you enjoy and remember how inspiring and moving live music is. They have been furloughed since March with no end in sight. Donate to their emergency fund at metorchestramusicians.org if you can.

The entire San Francisco Symphony family is deeply saddened to have cancelled not only the farewell celebration for MTT and his inspirational 25 year tenure with us but also the welcoming of our new music director, Esa Pekka Salonen this fall. We desperately miss performing for our incredible audiences and look forward to the day when we are able to do what we love to do, play interesting, challenging, inspirational and uplifting music for our community. Until then please check out our online content and digital celebration of MTT’s 25 years as our music director.
