For nearly six decades, the Steiner Bridge in the Western Addition has spanned Geary Boulevard, providing pedestrians a way to cross the busy roadway while avoiding ground-level traffic. Recently, Public Works and SFMTA | San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency partnered to remove the outdated structure and make way for improved pedestrian safety and bus service at the street level. Public Works project manager Ellen Wong gives us a breakdown of the demolition.
