UCSF POST SCD Study 08.05.2022

Our recently published article in the Annals of Internal Medicine. One in six deaths attributed to out-of-hospital cardiac arrest by EMS in San Francisco between 2011 to 2017 were actually due to occult overdose. Most deaths involved multiple drugs, and about half of intoxicants were prescribed. The true rate of overdose deaths and the severity of the opioid epidemic may be greatly underestimated. https://www.acpjournals.org/doi/10.7326/M20-0977

Our editorial in response to Dr. Gupta's important work published today in JAMA Internal Medicine on overall declining clinical autopsy rates and the association of race with the its use. Understanding determinants to preserve equal access to the invaluable clinical autopsy is critical. https://jamanetwork.com//jamainte/article-abstract/2767701

We had the opportunity to visit the CDC in Atlanta this past week for our Sudden Death in the Young grant! We had a great time meeting with other states and discussing what they're doing in order to prevent childhood deaths. We're excited to continue working with the CDC on this project!
