This order will be in effect from March 17 through April 7, 2020. This order was made in tandem with 5 surrounding counties in the Bay Area, and is the strongest large-scale directive to slow the coronavirus yet in the United States. Essential services such as grocery stores, pharmacies, banks, and laundry will r...emain open and all essential government services will continue as scheduled. Individuals are welcome to go for a walk, get exercise, or take pets outside as long as they maintain social distancing of at least 6 feet. Restaurants will continue to operate to-go and takeout food services. Although this order will significantly disrupt people’s lives, Mayor Breed believes it is absolutely necessary to reduce the harm of this virus for San Francisco residents. This order is not a reason to panic, but rather an effort to maintain the safety of San Francisco residents who are healthy and to avoid further harm.
