Tomorrow I’m going to go fix a fixture that’s part of a collection of matching designer fixtures in the building. The client see it says it’s made out of cement. We’ll see what that means.

HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - A new blood test that reveals who’s immune to the coronavirus will likely play a key role in the state’s plan to allow visitors to return to Hawaii. It’s called an antibody test and involves a simple finger-prick. It’s similar to how someone with diabetes checks their blood sugar. Results take 90 seconds. Dozens of companies are working to get FDA approval for their COVID-19 antibody tests.

It’s very hard to electrocute a person - just ask the government. Getting shocked happens all the time as long as it’s only a fraction of a second you are ok. It takes two events to happen at the same time in order to get electrocuted... You can die from electricity (the oldest example) was a child in the bathtub and a hairdryer fell in and the child couldn’t get away and they got shocked for a minute or so something. Now days that is prevented by a GFI plug (Ground fault interrupter) Another way someone died is he was crawling across sheet metal and he couldn’t get away for a long time and his heart to lost its rhythm. The final caution - If you are swimming by a boating dock and you start to feel a tingle, swim away from the dock do not try to climb upp the dock because as you get closer to the power supply the shocking gets worse.

I got a service call. The property manager said the backyard lights don’t work and it’s important. When I arrived, I asked the renter if it’s possible that all the bulbs could be bad. There are four of them so it seems unlikely. I removed the timer and put the wires together directly and guess what no lightbulbs light up.... I went up with the ladder and took them out - each one tested dead. The renter had two new bulbs so I replaced one on each side. I put the timer back in and tested it and the bulbs are working. I don’t know how the timer works it’s complicated and there are no instructions but it does turn on and off with the pushbutton.

I think my customer’s chandelier is a nicer than usual. I had to completely redo it after a handy.com guy really messed it up and I had to re do things safely and correctly. The two pendant lights over the counter were totally different heights and way too low.

It seemed like the 220V stove was bad. So they bought a new one, but it had the same symptoms. The pilot light worked but the burners did not work, so they called me in. A second clue was a standard plug that wasn’t working right.I tested the voltage behind the stove plug and it was low and intermittent. ... I went downstairs and checked the fuses and one of them was -partially- blown out. I replaced both fuses just to be sure, since fuses get old. Now the stove works fine. They had thrown out the previous stove, a $400 Oops. I mentioned that they might consider replacing all the fuses in the building unless they look really new. The cost for each fuse would be less than another service call in the future.

It was reported the hairdryer plug in the drawer of the bathroom vanity was somehow connected to the kitchen GFI. It turns out that the GFI in the third drawer down is controlled by the left switch in the bathroom which actually controls the shower light. It took a while to figure it out but the problem is solved

Consulting - What could make the lights flicker on the knob and tube circuit? Day #1 There are 7 recessed cans and two LED fixtures in the kitchen. The dining room has a 4 arm LED. ... The hypothesis is that the dimmers and the LED bulbs are not working well together. It was suggested that you go online and find some dimmers that say they’re compatible with LEDs. Next I was asked to take a look at the main electric service which looks good and modern. The burger alarm was making beeping sounds every time the power went out. To kill it we searched for the power supply to the burglar alarm. It is commonly called a "wall wart". I described what it looked like and my client was sharp enough to find it on the ceiling of the garage. I removed the alarm control box and the batteries from the wall. Finally, I did some troubleshooting with the porch light that’ is up high by working on my ladder. It was quite corroded. I took it down and you held the fixture and I hack-sawed the 1/8-inch pipe nipple to get the lamp holder out. I replaced it with a new porcelain one. Thank you for your help in holding it up when I put it back up. We made sure it hung correctly and straight. Day #2 In exchange for consulting on Apple TV and cutting the cable TV cord, I installed one of the dimmers you purchased but unfortunately it didn’t work. I called the 800-number. . . While we were waiting we checked out your TV set up. Finally, the guy came on the line but he didn’t help much. I brought in three different LED candelabra bulbs from my car and tested them but that didn’t help. I went back out to my car and brought some LED type dimmers that I had purchased yesterday, in case it was the answer, and guess what, it worked. No charge for any of the second days and thanks you for your consulting on Internet. I am waiting for Sonic.com fiber to the modem in September her

You can see that one of the white wires was not correctly grouped (it was short) and that’s why the power was out in the kitchen of my clients house. At first, it was intermittent and when I was there it was working so I had to wait until it finally quit working for a long enough time to get back there and then I was able to find the problem. I fixed it by cutting off all the wires even and then I put on a new wire nut and tightened It securely.

I was hired to install a nest thermostat. I had to replace the two wire cable with a three wire 18/4 thermostat cable as required by the nest thermostat. I was surprised to find out that the wall behind the thermostat used to be a pocket door and the sliding glass door was still in there. A cross brace mullen was jammed against a horizontal 1x4 so the wire couldn’t get through without making a channel In the sheet rock. It looks kind of ugly but it works perfectly and she said she’ll have somebody else do the plaster and paint. (Update edit in) I now have an electronic thingamajig that replaces the third wire without any plaster or paint!
