Sacramento CERT 21.02.2021

This morning the word perseverance comes to mind. On March 12th Sacramento CERT started our Spring Academy...and after only 3 sessions we were forced to suspend our Academy as Sacramento implemented Covid-19 restrictions. In the intrerim Sacramento CERT has seen back to back activations for Covid-19 responses, TF-7 antivations, and heat/air quality responses. Now in September we have been able to reopen CERT training, and we are proud to recognize many of the participants from our Spring Academy who have completed their training along with a few new members. Please help us welcome new members Carmen, Maya, Michael, Barry, John, Tracy, Nichole, Darrel, Robin, Sara, Don, Francisco, Brenda, Ravineel, Andrew, Willie, and Jake to the Sacramento CERT program!

Today we learned that Wilderness Archery, Inc (@wilderness.archeryinc) is helping Sacramento CERT with a target fundraiser! Need to release some steam after being cooped up in home isolation? Want to brush up on your aim before your next hunting outing? Swing by Wilderness Archery at 4870 Pacific Street in Rocklin, CA and pick up some Covid-19 targets! All proceeds go to support the Sacramento Fire Department Community Emergency Response Team. Sacramento CERT is a volunteer ...program of citizens who support the Sacramento Fire Department and other agencies across California during disasters and emergencies. Sacramento CERT has been activated since March 24th supporting Sacramento County Public Health with Covid-19 drive-through testing efforts, and the team is now supporting the City of Sacramento with food deliveries to citizens who are self-quarantining due to active Covid-19 infections or who are at high risk of contracting Covid-19. We would like to extend our immense gratitude to Wilderness Archery for this fantastic opportunity. Please show them some love and pick up your own Covid-19 target (or three) before your next outing!

If you are interested in getting tested for COVID-19 to help protect yourself or other people, check out Project Baseline. Based on the responses and testing appointment availability, you will learn whether you can get tested through this program. Project Baseline is currently offering free testing for COVID-19 in Sacramento County. To get tested, you will need to be able to drive to the site location.... To find out more, check out the COVID-19 Project Baseline web site: https://www.projectbaseline.com/study/covid-19/

Sacramento CERT members Rick Beymer, Steve Mata, Robert Ross, and Lisa Elk Walda spent February 24th-26th assisting Butte County Sheriff, CAL FIRE/Butte County (@CALFIREButteCo), Chico Fire Department (@chicofiredepartment), and Grant Hunsicker, host their first Community Emergency Response Team training class. We were honored to help out and we would like to thank everyone from the host agencies to the attendees of the class for their hospitality. The residents of Butte County have been through some incredible events over the past few years and they have earned the title of "Butte Strong". Thank you all for your hard work and dedication, and we hope to work with you all again soon!

Sacramento CERT members took time to practice setting up our Operations Center, our HAM radio antenna, mast, and transmitter, learned how to start and operate our generators, chain saws, lights, decontamination gear, and other key items in our inventory. Thanks to everyone who came out and learned how to get us up and running quickly during a disaster!

Sacramento CERT was honored to work as part of Task Force CERT to deploy to the Camp Fire in 2018. We hope being able to share our story at the San Diego conference will help other CERT programs expand and work more closely with their regional partners to build a more resilient community!
