Repent, for the Kingdom of God is at hand! (Matthew 3:2) After 400 years of silence from Heaven, a man is sent from God with a message. His name was John, and they called him the Baptizer. His message was singular Repent, for the Kingdom of God is at hand! Thus does the New Testament begin. These words were not spoken with a snarl, like we see on many tired and angry pulpit faces these days. No! John’s message was filled with hope and wonder. When he said the word repent,... it was not a rebuke but an invitation. An invitation extended from God Himself, offering His fallen and captive sons and daughters a way out of the darkness. The word means to change. It signifies the turning from one thing, and unto another. In this case, it is the turning away from the bondage of sin unto the liberty of Christ’s kingdom. Thus John says, for the Kingdom of God is at hand! In other words you can turn from sin to God because His ruling authority has now over-ruled all other claims to your soul. There is no title, nor deed, nor any papers of authorization clutched in greedy hands, that surpass the unyielding power of the Lord’s decree that you be free. And free you are, despite all lies to the contrary. Now, you may indeed not be walking in your freedom; but that does not mean it is not yours. It just means you need to repent, that is, you need to change. You can now because the power of God is present to help you. His Name is Jesus, which means "God Saves". See more

For Ezra had set his heart to study the law of the LORD and to practice it, and to teach His statutes and ordinances in Israel (Ezra 7:10 NASB) Elsewhere the Bible says, Great peace have they who love Your Law; and nothing will offend them. (Psalm 119:165) Set your heart upon God’s Word, and watch how God begins to prosper your way; how He blesses you in business, in friendships, in breakthroughs, and in favor with others. The bottom line is that God’s Word is true and trustworthy, and by opening our hearts to its life-giving power, we can live everyday in the deep assurance that God will open His heart to us with blessing and favor.

My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for man’s anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires (James 1:19-20 NIV) There was this guy who had been bitten by a rabid dog and was advised by his doctor that his recovery would be long and painful. The man grabbed a pen and began frantically writing on a piece of paper. The doctor responded, You’re not going to die, so there’s no need to... write out your will in such a hurry. Will? the guy replied, I’m not writing my will; I making a list of all the people I’m going to bite! Have you ever wanted to bite somebody? Even been so angry you could take a chunk out of ‘em? Maybe; maybe not. There are many around you who are feeling the squeeze; more than a few grinding their teeth. For there is a growing anger in our world today, fueled by any number of things, and headed for an unmistakable blow up. We are fast approaching the tipping point. But how about you? How are you doing? Are you finding a way to handle our crazy world without blowing a gasket? I think James gives us a good place to start when he advises everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry. An old proverb says that God gave man two ears and one mouth, so that we would listen twice as much as we speak. Why not cultivate this as a personal habit? Throughout today stop and deliberately listen, really listen to those who want to talk to you. Listen to the music that you have playing in your car as you drive to work. Listen to the sounds of life happening around you. Listen to your thoughts. And, above all listen to the Lord. He will take the big bite out of the craziness! See more

In His public ministry Jesus never taught without using parables; but afterward, when He was alone with His disciples, He explained everything to them privately. (Mark 4:34 NLT) In any field of endeavor, the surest and best way to attain the highest summit of excellence and achievement is to personally learn from the very best in that field. Anytime one gets an opportunity to sit at the feet of a Master, the smart choice will always be to seize the opportunity. And that is ...what has been provided for us in our relationship with Jesus. But take note of these key points, for they must not be overlooked if you would experience this unique privilege. First, it happened when they were alone. Sometimes one must break away from the hustle and bustle of the never-to-be-interrupted-quest for more before they will ever be able to fully hear the Lord speak to them. Second, Jesus expounded all things to them. That’s the word the Old King James uses, and it means to loose further. It’s like a package being unwrapped; with each passing moment it becomes more and more apparent, until we openly hold in our hands what had previously been hidden to us. Finally, like the disciples, we must be teachable. We must be ready to learn more than we suppose we need, and to be taken to places we never knew to go. The Master is calling you; take a break and get away for some private explanations. Are you listening? See more
