Distinguished members, as you're aware the SAN JOAQUIN SOUTH DISTRICT training meeting has been rescheduled to Thursday February 13th at 1 PM in Fresno, Calif...ornia. The Topic will be Process Service What Every Investigator Should Know The Location will be at Huckleberry’s Restaurant 222 E. Bullard Ave. FRESNO, CA 93710. Time is 1:00 pm to 3 pm. Cost is $10 for anyone in attendance. Pay at the door. Please RSVP to email below. Please plan to attend this very informative meeting and learn how to avoid the pitfalls most investigators fall into when serving papers. WHAT YOU WILL LEARN: What papers can only be served by a Registered Process server? What is the presumption of proper service rule and why doesn’t it apply to Private Investigators? Can you serve someone who is on the other side of the door when you can’t see them, but they tell you their name?Can you serve someone who identifies themselves on a RING doorbell when they aren’t physically there? If the yard is gated and posted with NO TRESPASSING signs, can you still approach the house? Can you serve a person by leaving the papers with someone at their UPS Store Mail Drop Box? When exactly can you substitute serve someone? Can you substitute serve the receptionist at a corporation? Doctors office? Can I serve someone at 5am in the morning who is leaving for work at that time? How about 10pm at night? What is the absolute last day to serve that paper in your hand? OUR SPEAKER will be Lauri Rowland of AMS Legal Support Services. Lauri was a Paralegal for 25 years with a certification in civil litigation. In that capacity she issued hundreds of subpoenas for records. For the past 5 years she has owned AMS Legal Support Services in Bakersfield and since buying the business has doubled its volume. AMS serves a variety of process including summons, subpoenas, orders to show cause, petitions and eviction papers. She recently opened an office in Fresno. Lauri is a prior member of the Board of Directors of the California Association of Legal Support Professionals (CALSPRO). Lunch will be available from the restaurant at an additional cost.
